  • Hines was stabbed to death in August and was unmarried and had no children meaning her estate automatically goes to her parents
  • The estate includes a $781,000 apartment given to her by Freeman
  • The actor says Hines' father Edward never provided for her and saw her just once or twice after he divorced her mother when she was 3
  • Hines is the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw
  • Her boyfriend Lamar Davenport has been charged with her murder

Morgan Freeman is hoping to keep his slain granddaughter's deadbeat dad from inheriting a pricey New York City pad he gifted to the young woman before her tragic death.

E’Dena Hines was stabbed to death in August, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend Lamar Davenport, and since the 33-year-old was not married and had no children at the time her estate automatically goes to her parents in the absence of a will.

Freeman has now submitted an affidavit to the court however requesting that Hines' father Edward not receive any of the $791,000 estate because his granddaughter barely even knew the man.

'In fact, from the time that E’Dena was approximately three and a half years old and until the Thanksgiving before her death, E’Dena met with Edward Lee Hines only one or two times,' Freeman writes in his statement.

'At no point during that time period were any efforts made by Edward Lee Hines to resume a relationship with E’Dena.'

The New York Post obtained the court papers which reveal that a majority of Hines' estate is the Tudor City one-bedroom condo given to her by Freeman, which is worth $781,000.

Hines is the granddaughter of Morgan's first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw.

Freeman adopted Hines' mother Deena Adair when he married Jeanette, and he writes in his affidavit that is was Adair and himself acting as a surrogate father who raised the young woman after he parents divorced when she was just 3-years-old.

'Throughout E’Dena’s entire lifetime, my daughter Deena Adair and I were the primary sources of support for E’Dena financially, emotionally, mentally and physically,' writes Freeman.

Freeman, 78, who was once forced to deny a romantic relationship with Hines, said at the time of Hines' death; 'The world will never know her artistry in talent. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.'

The young woman would frequently accompany Freeman to premieres, and was an actor herself.

According to her personal website she was an actor and writer living in New York City, where she studied at New York University's Graduate Acting Program.

The university announced shortly after her passing that a scholarship would be dedicated in her name.

Hines also taught under-exposed youth in her native Memphis, Tennessee, where she moved after she failed to land gigs and felt 'unfulfilled’.

Hines was stabbed 25 times outside her Harlem apartment in August with eyewitnesses claiming they saw Davenport, 31, committing the act.

After he was arrested, Davenport was taken to a hospital where after he was given sedatives he awoke screaming; 'Why did this happen? No, no! Why God?'

He also asked the arresting officers if they believed in Jesus and urged them to repent their sins.

He pleaded not guilty to Hines' murder in September and was set to undergo a psychological evaluation shortly after that hearing.
