Stoke target Spurs duo Crouch and Palacios for £16m double swoop

By Sportsmail Reporter

Stoke are lining up a £16million double swoop for Tottenham duo Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios.

The Potters are hoping to pay around £8m each for the duo, but are unable to match the lucrative contracts on offer at Spurs and so must convince both players to accept wage cuts.

But the ambitious move received a boost after fellow Spurs striker Roman Pavlyuchenko's agent said that Crouch was likely to leave White Hart Lane this summer.

Oleg Artemov wants to hold talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy over a new contract for the Russia forward, a task that could be made easier by Crouch's possible exit.

Harry Redknapp wants to bring in attacking reinforcements but must sell at least one of the frontmen already on his books.

And that man will not be Pavyluchenko, Rafael van der Vaart, Jermaine Defoe or Robbie Keane, according to Artemov, but Crouch.

'I expect to talk nearer to the transfer window's closing time,' said Artemov. 'At the moment he (Levy) is too busy.

'He needs to sell players and to buy new ones. Two or three teams are interested in Peter Crouch.

'So he is most likely to be the one of the five Spurs attackers to leave.'

Stoke face competition to sign Crouch, 30, with a host of other Premier league clubs, including Sunderland and Everton, interested in the England striker.
