Queens of Hollywood take a bow - and half of them are Brits! Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren and Charlotte Rampling pose for picture of Tinseltown's finest actresses

They're among the most influential and talented women in Hollywood – all set to shine during the coming awards season.

But perhaps the most striking thing about this picture is half of the actresses are our very own stars.

The image is yet further proof that Britons are more than holding their own in the world of US film and TV, 34 years after screenwriter Colin Welland told the Oscars: ‘The British are coming.’

Shot for a special cover of The Hollywood Reporter, the photo features Kate Winslet, 40, who has won an Oscar and three Golden Globes in her glittering career. She is expected to be honoured again for her performance in the Steve Jobs biopic.

She is joined by Dame Helen Mirren, 70, who won an Oscar in 2006 for her lead role in The Queen and has this year starred in the films Woman in Gold and Trumbo.

Charlotte Rampling, at 69, is another British veteran. She appears in 45 Years, a film about a middle-class English couple who have been married for almost half a century.

British youth is represented by Carey Mulligan, 30, who has been tipped for an award for her role as Maud Watts in Suffragette. She has already won an Oscar nomination for her role in An Education.

Add a fierce finish to your look with a glitzy clutch like Kate

All hail Kate Winslet! You can always rely on the A-list actress to channel timeless allure on the red carpet, and that's just what she did out at the screening of The Dressmaker in London this evening.

Kate oozed chic in a classic LBD which she paired with simple pumps, a glitzy clutch bag was thrown in for good glamour measure. The cluch is, of course, by Alexander McQueen. His most recognizable bags are these ones which feature a dramatic knuckle clasp adorned with his signature skulls.

Kate's exact design isn't available right now but there are a plethora of others available, like this one on the right at Nordstrom. It's an investment, or you could emulate the designer look for less below...

The youngest star in the line-up, 25-year-old Jennifer Lawrence, is also the highest paid.

Thanks to her part in the Hunger Games saga, she has raked in £34million in the last year alone.

She is joined by fellow Americans Jane Fonda, 77, and Brie Larson, 26.

The portrait of ‘eight of the most talented actresses alive’ is completed by Australian Cate Blanchett, 46.

Extracts from an interview with the stars revealed Dame Helen takes her on-screen inspiration from ‘babies and animals’ because they are ‘not messed up in the head the way I am’.

Miss Winslet spoke about how it had been easier for her to be an actress because she has a ‘very present husband’.

The mother-of-three said: ‘I definitely feel less guilt because I know he’s there during breakfast, lunch and supper if I’m not.’
