Now that really IS a tail light: Firm unveils clip on LED light for horses to improve rider safety

  • Device made of LED light strands that attaches to horse's tail for safety
  • Tail Lights Rider System is cheaper and smaller than original version
  • System is wireless and controlled with a hand held remote
  • Tail Lights is raising $18,500 on Kickstarter

After Sami Gros’s friend was hit by a car while trotting down the street on a horse, he set out to develop an innovated light safety system for horseback riders.

The $125 system has strands of LED lights, on both the front and tail units that warn oncoming motorists there is a rider on the road.

It may look like a fashion accessory, but the Tail Lights Rider System aims to save the thousands of horses and riders that are injured and killed each year in collisions.

Has a nine hour run time on a four hour charge.

Can adjust brightness to low, medium or high.

Is controlled by a hand held remote that can attached to a key ring.

Comes in red, blue, yellow, pink or white.

It has a two light system with 360 degree visibility.

'I first created the Tail Lights PRO unit which is currently being used and/or tested by eight Mounted Patrol units in Canada and the United State,' said Gros, CEO and founder of Tail Lights.

‘After seeing the success of this product, I decided to make a smaller more consumer version that was just as beautiful, but at a more affordable price.”

The Tail Lights Rider System has LED lights in the front and tail units, bright enough to be seen down the road.

The front unit is diffused so the horse isn’t distracted and it comes with a badge that attaches to the breast collar or rider when bareback riding.

There are four strands of LED lights stream down the tail unit, which attach to the base of the tail with proprietary wrap.

It’s a wireless system and controlled with a small hand held remote. The brightness, light patterns and colors can be easily adjusted to fit the rider’s preferences. There are six colors to choose from: red, blue, yellow, green, pink and white

Tail Lights Rider System will light for nine hours on a four hour charge.

‘Because we are already in production of the Tail Lights PRO series, we have already secured manufacturing, and we are just waiting for the working capital to start tooling and production,’ said Gros.

‘We have a very aggressive time frame to get these out to the public for Christmas, and we plan on ramping up production as soon as our goal is met.’

Tail Lights is campaigning for $18,500 on Kickstarter to fund the tooling of the product.

This capital will give the company the ability to make the housing of both the hard and plastic cases, as well as the custom LED strands used in the product.
