She added a literal sense to the idiom 'cold feet' as the scene comes amid fears she could quit the show after she refused to do the Bushtucker Trial on Wednesday, leaving her campmates to feast on burnt rice and beans.

ITV bosses are reportedly anxious the 66-year-old aristocratic writer could follow in Gemma Collins' footsteps and walk if she keeps refusing to take part in the challenges.

A source told The Sun: 'She's quickly emerged as one of the best characters of recent years and is worth her weight in gold as everybody’s talking about her.

'But she doesn't suffer fools gladly and as soon as she thinks she's being made to look like a fool, she'll consider her place in the jungle very carefully.'

Another added to the Daily Mirror that she's 'finding it hard to cope', saying: 'She is a woman on the edge.'

The fears come after she point-blanked refused to even begin the latest Bushtucker Trial which required her to crawl through a tunnel to a pit where she'd be trapped for 10 minutes in a task aptly titled Panic Pit.

Lady C claimed the underground activity would aggravate bad memories of her cousin who was murdered by 'being buried alive'.

Explaining her decision, the Jamaican-born socialite told lovable Geordie duo Ant and Dec: 'I'm not starting it, sorry. I have a cousin who was murdered by being buried alive, I'm not doing anything that is coffin like or involves coffins.'

Infuriated by the fact show bosses had appeared to ignore the fact she'd previously told them she wouldn't be undertaking any challenges involving an underground dynamic, she apologised to the hosts.

'I'm really sorry about this, I would gladly be a sport,' she explained before leaving the trial compound and returning empty-handed to camp.

Her camp-mates were sympathetic about her reasoning but less so when she burnt the basic offering of rice and beans in her new role as co-chef to Brian Friedman which has so far not made for the friendliest of partnerships.

I'm A Celebrity airs every night on ITV1 at 9pm, excluding Saturdays which have a later start time of 9.40pm
