When asked if nasty tweets affect her mood, Katie told FEMAIL: 'If I'm honest, yeah it really does. It's strange because I write books and give advice on confidence but at the end of the day I'm only human.'

She added: 'As silly as it sounds, comments from a stranger - who doesn't even know you - can still make you feel a bit down that day.'

Dishing out advice to Twitter trolls, the TV personality said: 'We all need to remember that social media is still a real person. If you wouldn't say it to someone in person when you met them, don't say it online.'

Model Katie became a source of strength for women everywhere following an acid attack in 2008 which left her face severely burned and blind in one eye.

Refusing to let the horrific experience stop her from achieving her dreams, today she counts best-selling author, inspirational speaker, presenter and charity campaigner among her accolades.

It's been a busy couple of years for Katie both professionally and personally. She welcomed her first child, daughter Belle Elizabeth Piper in March 2014, and is still in the honeymoon stages with new husband Richard.

While keen to keep her big day private, she said the wedding was 'wonderful' and becoming a wife has seen her confidence levels soar.

'Falling in love and getting to know somebody has given me more confidence in myself and my decisions, the same as becoming a mother,' she said. 'The wedding was the icing on the cake and making everything official. It was a wonderful feeling.'

Meanwhile Katie is currently helping everyone get in the festive spirit and is working with the Ideal Home Show at Christmas as their fashion ambassador. She is giving motivating talks to fans about how they can feel good about themselves during the holidays.

'I think we feel our most attractive and most beautiful when we feel confident,' she said. 'I found quite a lot of confidence through fashion and through clothes.'

She added: 'While Christmas is a really happy, joyful time for most people, for others it can feel be quite overwhelming with work parties, having to chat to people you might not normally have to or walking into a crowded room with people you've never met before.'

I am what I am and that's not that bad

Katie says the key to successfully dealing with these tricky situations is to just be yourself and to not worry about what others think.

'A big message is being the best version of you,' she said. 'Not comparing your clothes, your appearance to what other people have - it's about doing the best to look and feel good about yourself.

'It's a lot about body language and eye contact when you're talking to people. I'm a big believer in faking it until your make it, particularly in group situations you might not feel confident.'

She says positive affirmations to herself in the mirror when she's having a bad day - her favourite being: 'I am what I am and that's not that bad' - and appreciates the good things she has in her life.

Katie is keen to ensure her young daughter grows up feeling confident.

'I want the best for her and I want her to be confident but I don't want to mother her, I think she can find her own feet,' she said.  'I don't think real life is being confident all the time. I think confidence comes with age and life experience. I will teach her to go out there and see life for herself.'
