Golden touch: Roseanne Barr has been ordered to pay her ex-husband $40,000

Roseanne Barr has been ordered to pay her former husband $40,000 following a bitter custody dispute over their son.

A judge awarded Ben Thomas $35,000 of the $75,000 he wanted to cover his legal fees along with $5,000 for the inconvenience of the court case.

Barr and Thomas reached a settlement over their teenage son Buck back in August.

Thomas had initially wanted a $100,000 settlement, claiming in court that Barr is worth $42 million.

He also tried to justify his demands by revealing he earns $7,305 per month, in comparison  to Roseanne's $211,667.

Most of her wealth stems from her popular sitcom Roseanne, which ran for nine seasons until 1997.

The court proceedings stem from a dispute between the two that blew up earlier this year.

The comic was furious with Thomas, who was her husband from 1995 to 2002, for an action he filed against her in October 2010.

He went to court complaining Roseanne was violating a custody agreement for their 15-year-old son.

He claimed that when she decided to move to Hawaii in 2009, she agreed pay all expenses to fly Ben and his new wife over to see him for 10 days each month.

Ben said she pulled the plug on the deal. According to Radar, he quoted from one of her emails, claiming they said: 'I decided I'm no longer interested in abiding by this ridiculous arrangement.'

She also told him if he wanted to see their son he could 'buy himself a ticket and book a room.'

Barr was also unhappy that he allowed the action to go through public court -  according to an action she filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court in January, she and Thomas had an agreement that all documents between them would be confidential.

In her lawsuit she claimed he 'ignored the confidentiality provision which he was unquestionably bound by, and revealed his self-serving attitude and wanton disregard for Plaintiff's privacy, emotional sanguinity.'

Among the charges claimed in her suit were intentional infliction of emotional distress, breach of contract and invasion of privacy.

In April she went to court again, this time seeking full custody of their son.

Roseanne now lives in the tropical paradise of Hawaii with her son and boyfriend of seven years Johnny Argent.

She is popular with locals after helping with community efforts to improve the lives of the poor and disadvantaged.
