'This is also a gift to my mum': Nicole Kidman covers up to leave London theatre following Photograph 51 show as she opens up about her grief over losing her father

Nicole Kidman has been starring in the West End production of Photograph 51 since September.

And on her penultimate night of performing, the Australian actress was seen making a demure exit from the Noel Coward Theatre in Central London.

The 48-year-old covered up in multiple layers to shield herself from the cold.

Her outfit consisted of a smart pair of fitted black trousers, which she teamed with a grey marle jumper and a black blazer.

Adding more protection from the harsh elements, the Moulin Rouge star threw a black scarf around her neck.

She completed her outfit with an oversized leather tote and a pair of black patent kitten heels reminiscent of a vintage court shoe, while her signature strawberry locks were tied up into a casual bun.

The striking beauty accentuated her youthful complexion with natural makeup.

Nicole will bid farewell to the West End on Saturday night - her final Photograph 51 performance.

Earlier this year, Nicole - who notably appeared in films The Hours and Eyes Wide Shut - spoke to Dailymail.com about her latest role, revealing that her late biochemist father Antony urged her to take on the job.

'When I told him I was thinking about doing it, he was very excited,' Nicole said.

'Then my dad passed away last September. I went: 'All right, I need to do this for my father.''

'And I need to do it because I've got to get back on stage, into that uncomfortable place of going, 'I'm terrified!''

Nicole also recently opened up to ABC on her grief surrounding the loss of her father.

'It was this confluence of events where it was my father's death, and I was standing on stage in front of, you know, 1,000 people, performing a play that I'd told him I was going to do for him. So, life, right?' she told the publication.

'When you're a very, very close family and you lose a parent, the family is in such disarray for a long time, you know, in such pain. So this is also a gift to my mom,' she added.

On Thursday Nicole took to the stage in the name of charity as she dedicated a special performance of the theatre production to raise money for the MCGfutures charity.

Her latest stage stint has garnered sparkling reviews with theatre critics branding her performance 'brilliant', 'intelligent' and 'commanding'.

Her role in Photograph 51, written by Anna Ziegler, marks the first time Nicole has graced the stage in 17 years.

In the play, Nicole plays British scientist Rosalind Franklin who grew to notoriety during the late 1940s and early 1950s.

The play is set in 1953, London, and follows physicist Rosalind and a team of fellow scientists in their pursuit of discovering the DNA double helix.
