One in four men 'suffer MAN PERIODS': Time of the month triggers cramps, irritability, cravings and erratic emotions
- More than a quarter of men say they suffer pre-menstrual-style symptoms
- 60% of women believe their partner does have a 'time of the month'
- And 43% added they give their partner special support during this time
- However more than a third of women simply told their partner to 'man up'
A quarter of men believe they experience monthly 'man periods', according to a survey.
They report suffering symptoms similar to premenstrual syndrome – cramps, tiredness, irritability, cravings and being easily upset.
Almost two thirds of women whose partners supposedly suffer man periods said they believed they did exist.
A fifth of women surveyed admitted their partner handles his 'period' worse than she does her own.
A quarter of men believe they experience monthly 'man periods', according to a survey. They report suffering symptoms similar to premenstrual syndrome – cramps, tiredness, irritability, cravings and being easily upset
The survey, by vouchercloud.co.uk, polled 2,412 people (half of whom were male), who had been in a relationship for a minimum of 12 months.
The poll found 26 per cent of men suffered from symptoms associated with menstruation.
The top five symptoms were irritability (56 per cent), being more tired than normal (51 per cent), increased cravings (47 per cent).
Men also said they were constantly hungry (43 per cent), easily upset (43 per cent) and bloated (15 per cent).
Additionally, 12 per cent confessed they were more sensitive about their weight and 5 per cent believed they experienced menstrual cramps.
The majority of women agreed their partners suffered a period as they do.
And more surprisingly, when asked whether they offered any special support to their partners during these times, 43 per cent admitted that they did.
The most common ways cited were 'try and cheer him up' (44 per cent) and 'walk around on egg shells' (39 per cent).
However, of those who didn't offer any special support, 33 per cent admitted they had simply told their partner to 'man up'.
According to the poll, the average man who believes he has a 'man-period' spends an additional £81.53 ($124.62) on food and snacks per month, including takeaways compared to those who don't believe they experience such a phenomenon.
Men who believe they suffer menstruation symptoms also spend an extra £63.69 ($97.35) per month to combat increased cravings.
Dr Jed Diamond, author of The Irritable Male, believes that men, do, in fact suffer man periods.
He has extensively researched the condition, which is known as ‘Irritable Male Syndrome’.
‘It is assumed that women are hormonal and men are moved more by logic,’ he wrote in his book, according to The Telegraph.
‘But men have a number of hormonal cycles and these affect their level of energy, anger, sex drive and irritability."

The concept of man periods have long been studied – with many researchers believing levels of male hormones fluctuate with the moon’s cycle.

In the 1950s a Danish scientist called Allan Erslev collected male urine samples and found that hormone levels rose and fell following a 30-day rhythm.
He found the growth of their beard also fluctuated at the same time.
And a British study published in 2012 suggested men suffer from pre-menstrual-style symptoms, as badly as women.
Dr Aubeeluck, of the University of Derby, said this could be due to stress, or because men and women have different thresholds for pain.
She said: 'There is some evidence to suggest that pain thresholds differ between men and women so it could just be perception of pain.
'It could be women experience more pain but don't give it as much attention.
'When you are asking people to rate their experiences it is a little bit subjective.'
