Alan Pardew has welcomed the imminent investment in Crystal Palace by Americans David Blitzer and Josh Harris, saying the injection of cash will help the club both on and off the pitch.

The duo, who co-own the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s New Jersey Devils, are poised to take an 18 per cent stake in the Selhurst Park club, equal to that of co-chairman Steve Parish.

He said Palace - who host Sunderland at Selhurst Park on Monday night - can expect further spending in the transfer market following the summer arrivals of Yohan Cabaye and Connor Wickham.

Pardew said: ‘If you’re a Crystal Palace fan, it’s good news for you. This is for Palace going forward with the possibility of a new stadium, new facilities and new investment in the team.

‘We won’t change tactically from what we did last summer. We have good players and we will need to inject one or two good buys in there.

‘They have been very thorough in their investigation of us and I’m thrilled they’ve pitched in. They’ve got on good train and hopefully we can speed along a little bit quicker.’

Asked whether the presence of new investors would mean a reassessment of his position, Pardew said: ‘Statistics for managers when new owners come in are not good but these are not new owners, they are investors under Steve’s leadership.

‘If Steve was not in the process, I would be very nervous. I am comfortable this has been done in the right manner and very professionally. That going forward gives me heart.’

The midfielder played 57 minutes of France’s defeat to England at Wembley on Tuesday evening but Pardew admitted he had been ‘subdued’.

‘They were watching on the TV and it has got to affect your spirit,’ he said. ‘With no disrespect to England on the night because I thought they played well, I thought the French team looked subdued which is understandable.

‘Yohan understands that the best response to terrorism is for life to go on as normally as possible.’
