Until next time! Bindi Irwin gets a farewell hug from Derek Hough as they leave rehearsal studio ahead of Dancing With The Stars finale

Earnest preparations for the imminent Dancing With The Stars finale ended with a farewell hug on Wednesday afternoon as Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough departed a Hollywood rehearsal room.

The dance partners, who have developed a close friendship during their time on the show, embraced as Bindi prepared for the drive home with her doting mother Terri.

Sporting a black printed T-shirt and leggings, the 17-year old looked a little weary following her latest rehearsal with Derek ahead of the forthcoming grand final.

Clutching her trusty Nike trainers in one hand, Bindi's sock-clad feet were exposed as she padded back to her mother's car.

Derek looked casual in an oversized green cardigan and flat cap as he wrapped an arm around the teenager's shoulder by way of farewell before she climbed into the passenger seat.

Bindi has previously posted a touching tribute to the professional dancer on Instagram, saying he was 'the greatest big brother' she could ask for before telling him: 'You've changed my life.'

'Thank you so so much for all of your support,' the teen conservationist began alongside a photo of the pair embracing while still dressed in their stage costumes.

'No matter what happens @derekhough manages to make every day in the studio fun,' she continued. 'Even when I'm super tired he gives me strength and encourages me to keep trying my best and always believe.

'I promise to keep trying my hardest to truly help show the world what incredible dances you create. Thank you for inspiring me each day.'

On Monday's episode of Dancing With The Stars, Bindi and her dance partner Derek Hough performed a high-octane salsa to Sia's You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile.

Dressed in a sliver-sequinned flapper dress with fluorescent pink fringing, the daughter of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin received an impressive score of 27 out of 30.

The only criticism came from judge Julianne Hough, who said: 'I wish I could've seen a bit more down and dirty, because that's what salsa is all about,' perhaps forgetting Bindi is still a minor.

Bindi and Derek also won a samba dance-off against Backstreet Boy Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess, which earned them an extra three points.

Team Crikey will therefore go into next week's final with the highest total points this season.
