'No joke, she could not dance': Derek Hough reveals Bindi Irwin struggled when she first started Dancing With The Stars... as she continues to rehearse ahead of series finale

She's in the running to win the mirror ball trophy having made her way into the finale, and has been awarded perfect scores throughout her time on Dancing With The Stars.

But according to Derek Hough, Bindi Irwin found it hard to find her moves at the very beginning.

'You have no idea...No joke, she could not dance, she really couldn't,' Derek told Entertainment Weekly, as Bindi, 17, was seen at the show's studios in Los Angeles on Friday, no doubt to practice.

'I was like, "okay, okay. Take your khakis and let's fold them in the draw."

'And now to see her evolve and be aware of her body and [have] this confidence and even her posture is different, it’s awesome,' he said.

'I knew Bindi had this dancer living inside of her that she just wanted to get out, but to see her like actually do it, to see her actually perform.'

He then continued to sing her praises saying: 'And that's the thing, I'll give her the steps and I'll give her the moves and she's doing them and technique, and it's working hard on that. But then something else happens that she does and it's just all her.'

He continued: 'And it's this performance, it's this connection, it's this commitment to the steps. It's teachable, but it's only teachable to a certain degree...but she goes beyond that.'

The duo will compete this week in the finale that will take place over two nights in the US.

They remain in the competition in the top four, alongside Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold, Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson, and Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess.

On Friday, Bindi was seen at the dancing studios in Hollywood and looked a little tired.

Wearing a khaki Wildlife Warrior t-shirt with a picture of a person feeding a crocodile, she teamed her look with tights and her favourite pair of converse kicks.
