He's been chastised for wearing his trousers too high in the past.

But now Simon Cowell could be accused of choosing a trouser a tad too tight, as his zip began to buckle under the strain as he hit the red carpet on Thursday night.

The 56-year-old, standing next to glamorously clad other half Lauren Silverman, appeared to have struggled to zip up his trousers, with the fastening flying low at The London Palladium.

On the red carpet, Simon seemed slightly taken aback, as his glamorous other half left him holding her handbag.

Once the centre of attention at a media event such as ITV's inaugural Gala evening, Simon was utterly upstaged by girlfriend Lauren.

She stepped up to the limelight in a stunning black gown, set off by a striking crimson lipstick, cunningly asking her other half to protect her accessory while she was ushered before the photographers.

She giggled, playfully, handing over the patterned box clutch to Simon, who held it away from his body as if emphasising that it was not his own.

The music mogul obviously didn't want to detract from his signature style, which again on Thursday featured a crisp white, unbuttoned shirt, ankle grazing suit trousers and shiny shoes.

He also wore his round spectacles, luckily seeing the funny side of being lumbered with Lauren's handbag.

Simon Cowell was caught holding the bag. Literally. Lauren Silverman handed off her black clutch to the television producer creating quite an awkward moment at the ITV Gala. Which made sure all eyes were on this clutch.

She oozed confidence in a strapless gown that fashionably cut off at the lower calf to reveal dainty, pointed heels.

Lauren, the mother of Simon's only child Eric, and Simon have been together, officially, since July 2013, when news of their on-off relationship hit the headlines.

Proving their unbreakable bond, Simon and Lauren walked into the venue holding hands, ready to celebrate 60 years of the channel where Simon found his home for Saturday night favourite The X Factor.
