She's known for her impeccable style but since welcoming a fellow royal yesterday, Queen Letizia has had some serious competition in the fashion stakes.

The Spanish Monarch and Queen Rania of Jordan both shone as they showcased their different styles as they arrived for a meeting at the Centre of Molecular Biology at Autonoma University in Madrid this morning.

Letizia, 43, kept her look sleek and understated by opting for a business-like grey suit, which complemented her svelte figure.

Say it in stripes like Queen Rania

Queen Rania might be royalty by title but she's also a fashionista too. She tucked an over sized bohemian blouse into this marvelous black and white pleated midi skirt by Proenza Schouler.

With its elegant pleats and demure colors, it's suited for a smart sophisticated look but also feels young and edgy.

The skirt's monochrome pleats play tricks on the eye and create a lot of movement and flutter but of course with something designed so well, it's always going to be expensive.

This Proenza Schouler skirt is a touch under $2000. We know, we know! While the cost made us wince too, we do love it and if you're tempted, click right to buy it now at FarFetch.COM. If like us you cannot afford to spend your entire pay check or two on just one skirt, then see below for some cool striped alternatives from the likes of J. Crew, Charlotte Russe and our favorite by Halogen.

Her peplum jacket was cinched at the waist with a slim black belt and she paired her knee length pencil skirt with high heeled black Prada court shoes.

Letizia oozed sophistication as she smoothed her cropped hair into a sleek chignon. And a boxy black handbag added the perfect finishing touch to the ladylike ensemble.

Meanwhile, her Jordanian counterpart opted for a more fashion-forward look by opting for a monochrome palette.

She teamed it with a black and white wool midi skirt with a pleated front, thought to be from from Proenza Schouler's AW15 range, costing £1,435.

A statement red belt with a geometric cut out pattern added a splash of colour to the outfit.

Her brown curls were left tumbling over her shoulder to complement the relaxed feel, and she toted a black and nude Louis Vuitton Malletage Alma bag, which retails at £2230.

Like Letizia she also wore classic black heels, although the distinctive red sole suggested she'd opted for a pair by Christian Louboutin.

Showing no hint of royal rivalry, the pair seemed relaxed in each other's company as they smiled for the cameras.

Emerging from the meeting, both were still beaming widely as they waved goodbye.

Both style icons have both been winning in the fashion stakes since Queen Rania arrived in Madrid yesterday with her husband King Abdullah II for a two day official state visit.

Mother-of-two Letizia, stunned in an elegant dress in a bold red hue as she welcomed their guests at Madrid's Barajas Adolfo Suarez airport yesterday morning.

The Spanish royal offset her look with a matching red clutch and bold stilettos, and wore her bobbed hair in tight curls to welcome the Queen of Jordan.

Mother-of-four Rania, again opted for a trendier outfit and donned a red and white wrap coat with blue pockets and a matching clutch.

The duo were equally stunning at an official dinner at El Pardo Palace in Madrid last night.

They were joined by Rania's husband, Jordanian King Abdullah II, Letizia's husband, King Felipe, and his parents, former King Juan Carlos and former Queen Sofia.

Both women wore black with Queen Rania opting for a flowing mid-length number cinched in with a statement gold belt.
Queen Letizia meanwhile donned a glittery knee-length dress, which showed off her slim figure and waist with a wide black band.
