The REAL faces of yoga: Photographer snaps the faces of people in very awkward positions for a new book - and they are nothing like the sexy poses on Instagram

  • Jonah Sargent photographed 'uncomfortable' shots of people doing yoga
  • He said people don't try it because they feel worried about how they look
  • He's raising $2,500 (£1,600) through Kickstarter to publish a book

Those who indulge in yoga from time-to-time might think it's a graceful way to exercise.

However, as these rather all-too realistic images prove, nothing could be further from the truth.

Photographer Jonah Sargent, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, has captured the sweaty pain of practising hot yoga, and has selected the most 'uncomfortable' shots for a new book.

Jonah hopes to raise $2,500 (£1,600) through crowd-funding site Kickstarter to create a coffee-table book of his work called Faces Of Yoga.

Jonah wrote on the Kickstarter page: 'When I first started yoga, I was constantly distracted by how I looked and felt during class and I think that’s why a lot of people don’t try it.

'People are worried they’ll look or feel stupid.

'In the era of Instagram profiles devoted to "sexy yoga poses on beaches", it's important to remember that we all look bad when we do yoga, so we should immerse ourselves in it and forget the rest.'

Jonah described the project as him 'taking uncomfortable photos of people in strange poses'.

'Why am I making a book of sweaty people? It's not because I'm a die-heard "yogi" or anything.'

But he said he felt distracted during the classes and wanted this book to be a 'reminder that we all look horrible during yoga'.

The photographer took shots and only kept the ones which made him feel 'the most uncomfortable'.

The people in the images often look extremely awkward doing unusual poses, such as one man with his legs over his head.

While others appear to be enjoying it a lot and seem spaced out during the class, and some even look euphoric.

So far Jonah has raised $899 (£588) through crowdfunding and has a week left to raise his goal.
