Incredible film shows trio of adventurers traverse Iceland's breathtaking landscape of otherworldly glaciers and deadly icebergs
- Photographer Tim Kemple took two of Europe's best ice climbers to Iceland and created a 16-minute film
- The experienced trio scaled a glacier so large it can be seen from space and traversed a 150ft canyon on a rope
- In the film, they undertook feats that are considered too dangerous for the Ice Climbing World Championships
Thought you were pretty adventurous on your holidays? Take a look at what these guys call a vacation.
Action-sport photographer Tim Kemple took two of Europe’s most experienced ice climbers, Klemen Premrl from Switzerland and Rahel Schelb from Slovenia, on an adventure weekend to Iceland.
There, the trio explore the Vatnajökull, a glacier so large it can be seen from space, and attempts to conquer and capture the Iceland Trifecta – a host of deadly icebergs, ice caves and ice crevasse .
They faced a number of death-defying challenges that included using a fixed line to cross the mouth of a 150ft void, and a horizontal climb across the ceiling of an ice cave - a feat so difficult, it’s not even attempted in the ice climbing world championships.
Their escapades were charted by Kemple in a 16-minute video for the photosharing platform SmugMug called Climbing Ice: The Iceland Trifecta, which premiered this week at Banff Mountain Film Festival.
Kemple said: 'Glaciers are really shaped by the melting ice which creates this other otherworldly ever-changing landscape of pools, rivers and canyons, it’s unlike any other environment you’ve ever seen.'
