  • Brechin goalkeeper Graeme Smith travelled to Ochilview
  • Smith then realised he had turned up at the wrong stadium

Brechin City goalkeeper Graeme Smith endured quite an ordeal prior to his side's Scottish League One clash with Stenhousemuir on Saturday.

The Scottish keeper made the 89 mile journey from Brechin to Ochilview, Stenhousemuir's home ground, only to realise that he had arrived at the wrong stadium.

The clash was actually scheduled for Smith's home ground of Glebe Park which was nearly two hours away.

Realising his clanger, Smith dashed back to Brechin and, amazingly, returned in time to start in goal for his side.

Stenhousemuir's Head of Community Football William Hoggan took to Twitter to share Smith's ordeal stating: 'Brechin City keeper Graeme Smith rocks up to @OchilviewPark @StenhousemuirFC today but their the home team. Ha ha classic.'

Smith's bad luck continued on the pitch with his side crashing to a 2-1 defeat as goals from Alan Cook and Colin McMenamin secured the victory.

Smith's blunder was brought to the attention of Jeff Stelling and his team on Soccer Saturday with the host commenting. 'There's a great story coming out of Scotland at the moment, Graeme Smith, the Brechin City goalkeeper, may not feel it so funny because he turned up for today's game against Stenhousemuir at their Ochilview ground, only to realise he was 83 miles away from where he should be because it's a home game and he was meant to be at Brechin!'
