Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna has revealed the horrors of Paris left him too exhausted to play properly against Liverpool on Saturday.

The France defender — in his national team's line-up when terrorists struck at the Stade de France 10 days ago — was partly at fault for Liverpool's first goal as City lost 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Afterwards Sagna was asked if the events in Paris had taken their toll and said: 'Mentally I was OK. Physically I believed I was OK. But I wasn't.

'I tired quite quickly and didn't have as much power as I used to.

'Personally it's not my best week. But it's life, it's life and there's nothing you can do about it.

'It's part of the past now and you just have to keep your head up. It was not easy to be part of that event (in Paris).'

Sagna and French team-mate Eliaquim Mangala were part of a City defence that crumbled in the face of scintillating football from Jurgen Klopp's.

'It was quite difficult,' added 32-year-old Sagna.

'We started the game really well but we conceded a goal quite quickly and we were both involved in the first goal.

'So it's never easy (after that). We had to keep our head up and that's what we are going to do in the future.'
