SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Aristocratic ex-husband of I'm A Celeb star Lady Colin Campbell says 'I don't care about her or her jungle show'

Lord and Lady Colin Campbell were married briefly in the 70s, but split after he found out about her unconventional upbringing

Despite her lofty behaviour and frequent bonkers outbursts, Lady Colin Campbell has become the unlikely darling of the I’m A Celebrity jungle.

But while her madcap antics have captivated viewers of the reality TV show, several thousand miles away the former husband responsible for her grandiose title, Lord Colin, remains blissfully unaware of his eccentric ex’s new-found national treasure status.

I managed to track him down this week, eventually discovering him to be living in Miami, where he is attempting to eke out a trade as a literary agent.

‘Sorry, I know nothing about it,’ he tells me when I ask about the programme. ‘Nor do I have any interest in this person’s endeavours since I divorced her decades ago after a very brief marriage.’

Lord Colin, 69-year-old son of the 11th Duke of Argyll and a cousin of the Queen, enjoyed a brief marriage to Lady Colin (pictured together, right) in the Seventies. But he ended it after a year when he was ‘horrified’ and ‘traumatised’ to learn his bride had been raised in Jamaica as a boy, having been born with disfigured genitals that needed surgery.

Lady Colin insists she told him about her unconventional upbringing before they were married.

But while Lady C, 66, found fame as a royal author and society hostess, Colin got as far away from her as he could by decamping to New York, where he dropped his title and tried to reinvent himself as an art dealer. He is said to refer to his ex as a ‘crashing snob’. Meanwhile, Lady C — whom bookies make a 9-1 shot to be Queen of the Jungle — continues to win admirers.

Among her burgeoning fan club is Downton Abbey creator Lord Fellowes. ‘She is such a character,’ he tells me. ‘She comes from a small Jamaican family with some pedigree which I know. Audiences like someone like her, who isn’t like anyone else. I back that.’

Italian firecracker Nancy Dell’Olio could count on former Chancellor Norman Lamont for support at her one-woman show at the Hippodrome Casino.

Lord Lamont told me his old friend was a ‘hit’, particularly when Nancy, 54 — best known for a fling with former England football manager Sven-Goran Eriksson — talked about flirting. ‘She did it very convincingly,’ he said.

Dell’Olio’s skin-tight, leather-effect dress, which she teamed with sky-high platform shoes, also won rave reviews from the Tory peer.

‘The couture was very good,’ he beamed.

London’s River Cafe is said to be single-handedly responsible for Alan Yentob’s unsightly girth. So he’ll be delighted that the Italian restaurant in Hammersmith founded by Ruth Rogers, wife of architect Lord Rogers, plans to open a sister restaurant near Broadcasting House in central London.

But not everyone near the proposed site in Mayfair is happy. Some residents are furious about the likely increase in noise and traffic.

The local Bourdon Street and Grosvenor Hill residents’ group has written to the Duke of Westminster’s Grosvenor Estates, which owns the freehold, urging it not to give the go-ahead, citing ‘undesirable characters’ it might attract. Grosvenor insists there will be proper consultation before a decision is made.

Ciabattas at dawn.

Despite controversially saying it would be ‘a dark day’ if England won the Rugby World Cup, veteran All Blacks player Ali Williams has found solace with Prince Harry’s chum Natalie Pinkham, the sports TV presenter.

MENTIONING NO NAMES...

Which much-loathed financier’s personal life is far racier than his dullard exterior might suggest? I am told he and his wife are fixtures on the South of England’s wife-swapping scene.

‘In a drunken moment I invited him and his wife to join us for Christmas Day,’ Pinkham tells me at the opening of Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, which she attended with her husband Owain and baby Wilf.

‘Poor Ali can’t get home for Christmas so he’s coming to be with us. I’ve got 20 people coming and I’m cooking even though, my God, I am a terrible cook.

‘But I am very worried. He’s 6 ft 8 in and eats like a horse. I think he will eat a whole turkey on his own.’

A dark day for English turkeys, then.

WHEN one is meeting the Queen, one wants to scrub up well. But Lucy Turnbull, the wife of Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, is going to rather extreme lengths ahead of Her Majesty’s forthcoming jaunt to Malta for the gathering of the Commonwealth heads of state.

On Monday, Turnbull, 57, checked into the Viva Mayr clinic in Austria — the punishing so-called ‘fat farm’ where Justice Secretary Michael Gove shed 2st. The more hardcore treatments offered by the clinic include colonic irrigation.

Talk about a royal ice-breaker.

She didn’t miss a game when boyfriend Chris Robshaw captained England at the Rugby World Cup, but scrummy soprano Camilla Kerslake reveals she has been forced to consider withdrawing her support after becoming a victim of online bullying.

‘It’s truly shocking how, as a woman in her mid-20s in a loving relationship with great friends, family and a fulfilling career, I’ve been affected by these comments,’ says Camilla, 27.

‘They tweet increasingly offensive things but don’t have photos on their profiles so I’m constantly fearful I’ll encounter them at a match and not even know it until it’s too late.’

Recalling a match earlier this month, she adds: ‘I kept looking over my shoulder wondering if they were around.

‘Sadly, the only way to avoid this is to stop supporting Chris at games, something I’ll never do.'

Sophie Hunter, Benedict Cumberbatch's wife, turned up to a charity event wearing a £2,595 dress

While her husband Benedict Cumberbatch has been hectoring theatre audiences to donate to a charity for Syrian refugees, 37-year-old Sophie Hunter turned up this week to her own charity event wearing a gown worth more than any poverty-stricken child could dream of.

The Burberry patchwork print silk empire line dress costs an eye-popping £2,595.

Old Harrovian Benedict has finished his run in Hamlet at the Barbican and is filming Marvel hero Doctor Strange in Nepal. Perhaps he should be seeking donations for Sophie’s next outfit.

Dame Helen Mirren has offered charming insight into what her parental philosophy would have been had she ever had children.

‘We’ve got to stop being polite,’ says Dame Helen, who is married to American film director Taylor Hackford. She continues: ‘If I’d ever had children, which I don’t, the first thing I’d teach a girl of mine is the words: “F*** off.” ’

Lottie Moss shares more than just good genes with her supermodel step-sister Kate, for it appears they also have a penchant for fresh-faced young men.

The 17-year-old Calvin Klein model dined at Zebrano in London on Thursday with strapping Welsh tennis pro Evan Hoyt (pictured with Lottie). At the age of 20, he is only eight years younger than 41-year-old Kate’s new lover Nikolai Von Bismarck.

But despite being age appropriate, Lottie’s mother Inga still felt compelled to chaperone the pair, having spent the early evening with her daughter at a local Christmas fair.
