Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona PLAYER RATINGS: Deadly Neymar inspires romp as Cristiano Ronaldo jeered by own fans

  • Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta (9.5) capped display with stunning goal
  • Isco resorted to kicking Neymar (9) because Real Madrid couldn't stop him
  • Cristiano Ronaldo (4) had night to forget, as did most of his team-mates

Neymar produced another destructive display as Barcelona ran riot at the Santiago Bernabeu. Sportsmail's Rik Sharma rated the players' performances on Saturday.

Real Madrid

Keylor Navas 6

Conceded his first goals in this stadium since January. No chance with the first but could have kept out the second, getting an arm to Neymar’s shot.

Danilo 3.5

Given a torrid time by his friend and compatriot Neymar. Could barely keep up with him let alone shackle the star.

Sergio Ramos 3

Took painkilling injections so he could feature, but made a huge error for the opener. Pulled out of position and allowed Suarez to run in behind him and finish.

Raphael Varane 7

Did a better job of looking after Suarez than his team-mates did with their duties in defence. His fine pace helped keep the Uruguayan quiet, well, relatively speaking.

Marcelo 6.5

A brilliant goal-line clearance on the stroke of the half-time from Suarez’s shot was the only thing that kept his side within touching distance. Most of the danger came down the other flank, not his.

Toni Kroos 4.5

Where has he been since January? The German is partly shackled by his defensive duties but made no attacking impression and nor did he get close to Andres Iniesta, who ran the show for Barcelona.

Luka Modric 5

Like his partner, detached from both the attack and the defence. Not physical enough to stop Barcelona’s midfield.

James Rodriguez 7

Selected ahead of Casemiro to give Madrid more attacking edge. Booked for fouling Neymar and had a low shot saved easily by Bravo. Oddly taken off despite being Madrid’s best attacking player.

Gareth Bale 4

First contribution to the game was leaving his foot in on Jordi Alba after 20 minutes and offered nothing else before the break. Fed James in the second half, but the Colombian’s strike was saved.

Karim Benzema 5

Hadn’t played since October 4 for Madrid and looked as rusty as you would expect. Couldn’t glue moves together like he usually does.

Cristiano Ronaldo 4

Lucky to stay on the pitch after elbowing Dani Alves in the head. One early burst past Javier Mascherano aside, had nothing to offer bar half-hearted penalty appeals. Should have scored in the second half when sent through, bur Bravo denied him superbly. Whistled by his own fans towards the end.

Subs

Isco 2

Offered nothing to replace the threat of James after being brought on for the Colombian. Hacked Neymar and was deservedly given a straight red card.

Dani Carvajal 6

Came on for Marcelo after Messi’s introduction, but the Argentine stayed mainly in the middle so didn’t have a lot to do.

Barcelona

Claudio Bravo 8

A moment of madness in the first half nearly led to a Madrid goal but saved well from James early in the second half and even more impressively from Ronaldo, with the Portuguese marksman clean through. Benzema was also denied late on as the Chilean proved unbeatable.

Dani Alves 6

Booked for fouling Cristiano Ronaldo but the Portuguese should have been sent off for retaliating with an elbow. Helped Barcelona break a few times.

Gerard Pique 8

Whistled relentlessly from the off, but did not put a foot wrong. They can taunt him as much as they want at the Bernabeu, but was the best defender on the pitch.

Javier Mascherano 4.5

Absolutely roasted by Cristiano Ronaldo early on and then had to be taken off injured after 27 minutes. Appeared to pull his groin and also got a kick in the same area for good measure.

Jordi Alba 6.5

Was careful not to get caught out of position and barely put a foot wrong in defence. Wasn’t as consistent a contributor in attack as he usually is, but didn’t need to be either.

Sergio Busquets 8.5

His performances in recent weeks have been exceptional and he was a huge character in the middle of the pitch again, dominating the play.

Ivan Rakitic 6.5

Didn’t look totally comfortable from the start, having just come back from a calf injury. Careful with the ball and had just about reached his limit when replaced by Lionel Messi.

Andres Iniesta 9.5

Said he wants to ‘keep going like a motorbike’ and he’s doing it. Controlled the game in the early stages and put the second goal for Neymar on a silver platter, before scoring a brilliant third himself. What a way to play his first Clasico as Barcelona captain.

Sergi Roberto 7.5

Starting him ahead of Lionel Messi would have been unthinkable a few months ago but his form has been magnificent. Set up Suarez for the opening goal with an assist the Argentine himself would have been proud of. Fired over when well-placed.

Luis Suarez 8

Scored the opener with a brilliantly taken finish and although after that was kept under close watch by Varane, still combined in various impressive Barcelona moves. Denied a second by Marcelo’s goal-line clearance, but eventually got it after fine work by Messi.

Neymar 9

Another mature, destructive display from the Brazilian. Finished the second after being set up by Iniesta and then repaid the Spaniard with a cute back-heel to tee up the third goal. When teams can’t stop him, they kick him. Isco did it and was sent off.

Subs

Jeremy Mathieu 6

Very much hit and miss in a Barcelona shirt. Sliced a clearance across his own box to create terror for his team-mates, but the ball was scrambled away in the end. Calmed down after that.

Lionel Messi 7.5

Back on the pitch for the first time after almost two months out with knee ligament damage. Just a casual run-out but still put the jitters through Madrid’s defenders. Helped set up Suarez’s second goal with a meandering run and through-ball.

Munir El Haddadi 5

Came on late for Iniesta to help Barcelona see the game out. Fluffed two great chances for Barcelona’s fifth.
