‘It’s going to be cowboy hats, horses and rock ’n’ roll,’ a friend said, before adding: ‘All their relatives are thrilled that they have at last decided to tie the knot.’

However, a source close to the couple told MailOnline that the marriage reports were ‘highly improbable.’

Goldie and Kurt - who have a son together, former hockey player Wyatt Russell, aged 29 – first met on the set of The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band in 1968.

But it wasn't until nearly two decades later in 1983, when they began dating during the production of their second film, the 1984 romantic comedy Swing Shift.

Kurt, 64, also plays parent to Goldie’s children, actors Kate and Oliver Hudson, after the two had a rocky relationship with their father Bill Hudson, whom the 70-year-old actress was married to between 1976 and 1982.

Her first marriage to Gus Trikonis ended in 1976 after seven years together, while Kurt was married to actress Season Hubley from 1979 to 1983.

Earlier this year, Goldie told Porter magazine that marriage is not the magic ingredient to an enduring love, but rather, intention.

'A lasting relationship isn't about marriage,’ she explained. ‘It's about compatibility and communication. And you both need to want it to work. If one person does not want it to work, it isn't going to work. Intention is the key.

'It's also about not losing yourself in each other. Being together, two pillars holding up the house and the roof, and being different, not having to agree on everything, learning how to deal with not agreeing. Everything's a choice.'

Elsewhere, on Saturday, the Death Becomes Her star celebrated her 70th birthday with her loved ones.

Her daughter Kate, 36, shared a montage video clip of the duo on Instagram in honor of the still golden star and mother-of-three.

She finished the post with multiple hashtags: Happy 70th Mama I LOVE YOU #MamaGoldie #70 #LiveWithAllYourMight #LoveMyMama #EllieGoulding #Army.'
