Forget the battering Ronda Rousey took to the face - what happened to her FEET? Photos of humiliated UFC champ's purple and yellow toes take over the internet

  • Photos showed that soles of Ronda Rousey’s feet were yellow and purple
  • It sparked a debate on what caused this kind of discolouration
  • Reason for this ranged from jaundice to training on dirty floors
  • Wore sunglasses and held a pillow to her face as she arrived back in U.S.
  • Was escorted to limo by bodyguards past crowds of curious passengers

Ronda Rousey did her best to hide her disappointment as she touched down in the United States last week following her humiliating defeat, but she'd have been as well to do the same for her feet.

After she was knocked out following a kick to the jaw from compatriot Holly Holm, while she was on the canvas you could see the soles of her feet were clearly yellow and purple. The question is how did they get to be this colour?

A debate raged on Reddit as to why this happened. One was that athletes developed jaundice after using steroids for more than two years.

But American mixed martial artist Julie Kedzie denied that this was the case with Rousey. She tweeted that the bottom of her feet regularly looked the same as this but she 'didn’t juice EVER'.

The material used on the floor of the Octagon rubbing off on the competitor's feet caused the colouring she said, while training and fighting in the cold could be another reason.

Other possible causes given for the discolouration of Rousey's feet ranged from circulation issues to plain old dirty floors.

Last Wednesday the dethroned UFC world champion walked into LAX wearing sunglasses following her flight from Melbourne - using a pillow to cover her face and no mention of her feet. She was likely hiding the injuries caused by a savage beating from Holm.

A stunning kick to the jaw completed a huge MMA upset by the challenger - ending Rousey's undefeated record and reign as the one of the world's most feared female fighters.

But her bodyguards had to step in and escort her to a limo after curious passengers began approaching her.

Rousey vowed that she would be back after she was knocked out by Holm in the second round of the UFC 139 bout.

Touted as one of the most best female prizefighters in the world, she was hospitalized after Holm sent her to the floor in the second round.

But the US cult figure assured her supporters she has no serious health concerns and would be back in the octagon before long.

'I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support,' Rousey said in a statement posted on Instagram. 'I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I'm fine.

'As I had mentioned before, I'm going to take a little bit of time, but I'll be back.'

Her words came as Floyd Mayweather spoke out to defend Rousey against internet trolls.

'I don't think it's cool how everyone is trolling her on social media,' Mayweather told FightHype.

'Certain things you have to learn. People will love you on Friday and then Sunday morning, it's nothing but negative comments and people making jokes and people making fun about you, which I don't think is cool.'

He added that he feels a sense of sympathy despite not knowing what it feels like to lose.

'I’ve never been on the other side, so I don’t know how it feels. I’m pretty sure she’s a very, very strong person, but we still have to take into consideration that she has feelings. Everything happens for a reason. This was already written.

'I think that everything is just a learning experience. In due time, she’ll be able to bounce back and make some noise again in mixed martial arts.'

There were reports after the fight of a re-match between the newly crowned champion Holm and Rousey.

Rousey's nutritionist and conditioning expert Mike Dolce said he expected her to rebound after her unexpected defeat.

'She will be back, absolutely, she is an amazing athlete,' Dolce told reporters in Sydney.

'Ronda has lost before, she lost at the Olympic Games and I think that was a great test for her and look at how she came back, she came back a multi-time world champion.

'So I will be expecting the same type of rebound after this.'
