In the video, the student and teacher can be seen standing toe to toe and then the girl appears to slap the teacher in the face with her right hand.

After the slap hit home, the teacher and student both appeared to strike each other and then they began to grapple.

Both individuals ended up on top of a desk while other students in the classroom watched in shock.

The teacher said she plans to press charges, according to CBS Dallas

The Dallas ISD said in a statement: 'Today, a teacher at Skyline High School suffered minor injuries after being assaulted by a student.

'Violence is not tolerated in our schools and the student will face consequences in accordance with our Student Code of Conduct.

'Out of respect for privacy laws relating to both employee matters and student discipline, Dallas ISD will have no further comment on the matter.'

David Lee of the American Federation of Teachers, a group that represents thousands of Dallas teachers, said educators have the right to protect themselves in violent situations, Fox 4 reported.

Lee said: 'Obviously, teachers should use the most restraint possible when dealing with these types of situations, but at the same time, a teacher does not sign away the right to defend themselves if they're assaulted by a student.'
