He later wrote on Twitter: 'I'm working hard to come back even stronger!'  According to Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, Sakho's injury is not as serious as was initially feared.

Sakho was expected to be out of action until at least January, but the former Borussia Dortmund boss said at a press conference on Friday: 'Mama is good news. It's not that serious as we thought in the first moment.'

Klopp added: 'We don't want to give you a time – you can ask every day – but it's not Christmas 2016! So that's good. Between now and 2016! It's good news, it's not too serious.'

Liverpool travel to Premier League leaders Manchester City on Saturday. Klopp has been in charge of the Merseyside club for seven games since taking over from the sacked Brendan Rodgers in October.

He has lost just once in that time, the 2-1 defeat by Palace at Anfield last time out.
