Just a glimpse of Justin Bieber seems to send his largely female fans into meltdown and just last month, hours before the diminutive pop star took to the stage, 'Bieber fever' was raging.

Baying fans queued to board cruise ships charging $45-a-pop to charter them to so-called 'Bieber Island' on Sydney Harbour in Australia, as the 21-year-old prepared to take to the stage for his concert.

Desperate fans who missed out on tickets and were unable to get onto the vessels were seen frantically kayaking to the island where more than 200 security guards awaited to turn them away, dashing their hopes of meeting their favourite star.

Other fans have had more luck in getting close to the star. One young lady who met the singer backstage at his show - and even managed to capture the moment on camera - went as far as to cut her hair and save the part that he touched.

The girl, who tweets under the handle @love_1canadian, even posted a snap of her ponytail on Twitter to make her fellow Beliebers jealous.

Elsewhere, the female fans who didn't manage to get up close and personal with the Biebs managed to indirectly steal a kiss from the star - by face planting on the ground and kissing the tarmac he walked on.
