Freezing for fashion! A-listers brave London's Arctic temperatures to showcase acres of skin in glamorous frocks at theatre awards

Kelly Brook and Kate Beckinsale brave the cold on Evening Standards Theatre Awards red

A bevy of A-listers stepped out for the 61st Evening Standard Theatre Awards in London last night showing off bare arms and plunging necklines - proving that the weather forecast was clearly the furthest thing from the mind. But while some stars managed to get the flesh-flashing style right, others were left out in the sartorial cold. From left to right: Gillian Anderson stunned in a revealing 1950s-inspired number without a goosebump in sight; Kate Beckinsale looked elegant in printed silk better suited to a summer's evening; Nicole Kidman won plaudits for her elegant style - along with her acting - in a clinging lace gown; however Salma Hayek's extreme cleavage gown placed her firmly in sartorial Siberia as the mercury hit 3C; Pixie Lott teamed her skimpy velvet number with a matching neck scarf and Kelly Brook showed off the latest velvet trend but failed to fasten the front of her dress, allowing a gust of wind to whip the fabric away leaving her red-faced as she showed off far more than she originally intended.

'Police call handler could have saved my son from sex killer': Mother claims 101 operator ignored her pleas for help when her teenage son was being groomed by predator who went on to murder him

Breck Bednar's mother says Surrey Police could have 'saved son' from Lewis Daynes

Lorin LaFave called Surrey Police 'begging' them to help protect her 14-year-old son Breck Bednar who was being groomed online. But an 'incompetent and uncaring' non-emergency call operator fobbed her off with a reference number after just 12 minutes on the line. Within an hour the case had been 'closed' by junior civilian staff who failed to undertake even the most basic checks. If they had looked up killer Lewis Daynes on national police systems they would have found he was accused of raping a 15-year-old boy three years earlier. A review into the case has today revealed the appalling police failings.
