Cristiano Ronaldo is a victim of his own success according to Dani Alves who suggested on Monday that if it's all about one player in the good times it will inevitably be all about the same player when things are not going so well.
'I still think he is displaying a lot of quality,' he said. 'But that's the problem when you are... how can I say it without offending... when you are too much the protagonist this happens.
'When you are the main protagonist there are two things that occur - when the team wins they always talk about you and they always put you ahead of the rest, and when you lose you will take the blame.

Alves clashed with Ronaldo on Saturday in the Clasico when he held back the Portuguese on a counter attack
'When the team doesn't play well it's your fault, when they don't win it's your fault, everything is your fault. But these people must be used to that.'
Alves clashed with Ronaldo on Saturday in the Clasico when he held back the Portuguese on a counter attack and Ronaldo responded by elbowing him in the head.
Alves was booked for the original foul but the Real Madrid player escaped punishment. Alves added: 'We have enough to worry about with what we are doing to think too much about Ronaldo or if he is no longer the player he was.'
Ronaldo is now slipping behind Neymar in the eyes of many in Spain. La Liga's top scorer performed brilliantly in the Clasico win and Alves believes he played a part in his fellow countryman arriving in Barcelona.

He said: 'I would like to think I put my grain of sand at the time for him to come here. I wanted him to write his name in golden letters at Barcelona and he is doing that.'
Manager Luis Enrique added: 'Neymar is one of the greats. We have known all about his potential since he was in Brazil. But he has also completely identified with the philosophy of the club from the moment he arrived.'
Luis Enrique finds himself in a very different place to 13 months ago when he had fallen out with the players and appeared on borrowed time.
After losing the first game of the year to Real Sociedad his team did not look back winning the treble but he knows this season's start is no guarantee the season will end well.

He said: 'The outlook is bright but sometimes things can turn out differently. Football is unpredictable. We have to keep working hard. And we have to keep doing the things we are doing.'
Barcelona go into their Champions League group game against Roma needing just a point to make sure of qualification.
They have improved defensively of late keeping clean sheets in their last four games. 'I was pleased with the way we started the season,' he said.
'We were letting too many goals in but we know that a team has to be strong defensively to win big things.'
