Demi Lovato looks sensational in a gothic waist-cinching corset and sexy knee-high boots as she steals the show at the American Music Awards

Demi Lovato proves she knows how to bring it with maximum sex appeal, whether she's hitting the stage or the red carpet.

And the 23-year-old singing superstar certainly put on a stunning display as she took to the stage at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

The talented star entertained the assembled guests at the Microsoft Theater twice during the evening, once along with music icon Alanis Morissette and another time solo.

It was during her lone performance that she really stole the night, though, as she rocked out with her impressive vocals for a rendition of her new single Confident.

She certainly looked incredible, too, flaunting her slim-line curves in a gothic-inspired look that made the most of her toned thighs.

The dark-haired and dainty beauty accentuated her petite figure in a black jacquard-effect jacket worn as a dress complete with a very snug corset over her waistline, making it appear even tinier than it is.

The jacket was low cut to reveal her ample cleavage - an of-the-moment black choker around her neck to draw further attention to the area - and she teamed the look with fishnet tights and knee-high black boots.

Her overall appearance was both covered up and also allowed her to flaunt just the right amount of flesh to up the sex appeal during her impressive performance.

To complete the look, the Cool For The Summer singer rocked a seriously heavy smoky eye and deep red lips, a vixen in the making.

The performance opened with the singer flanked by two other backup dancers as she sensually moved to the upbeat rhythm of the song.

Also during the show, Demi hit the stage with Alanis for a duet of her mega-hit, You Oughta Know.

Despite the fact Demi was only three years old when the 41-year-old's iconic Jagged Little Pill album hit the charts in the 1990s, she proved she had well and truly caught up.

The crowd was whipped into a frenzy as the two talented musicians gave an energetic and stirring rendition of the singer's 1995 hit.

The alternative icon gave the classic song her usual treatment as she prowled the stage with Demi, who turned heads with her pipes and killer outfit.

Demi looked incredible as she exposed her midriff in a black PVC garment with a front zip, textured jacket, and bold red lips, a change from her other stage ensemble, but still sticking with her all-black theme.

Alanis first took the stage solo, and without a doubt had the audience in the palm of her hand as she revived the 90's anthem.

Demi then joined Alanis and instantly dived right into the high-energy song, circling the stage with an intense expression and pace.

Clearly giving it all, Alanis looked comfortable yet stylish in black leggings, a sharp jacket, and a textured top.

Earlier in the night, Demi had gone all-out in her red carpet attire, looking drop-dead gorgeous in a curve-hugging floor-length gown covered in delicate sequins in what appeared to be a metallic camouflage pattern.

The long-sleeved dress was also ravishingly backless, allowing the gorgeous US star to flaunt her gym-honed figure flawlessly.

Her black locks had been styled into 1940s-style waves to add a vintage drama to the look, which was otherwise rather modern.

It has been another big year in Demi's singing career, having released her fifth studio album Confident last month.

Recently, the star spoke to Brazil's Papel Pop about how she overcame insecurities and now embraces being a role model to others.

She explained: 'I do have to stay accountable. Because there are people who look up to me for inspiration. There are times when I don't feel confident and I feel insecure about my body. I think what's important is that I walk the walk, I don't just talk the talk. I have to stay accountable.

She admitted that it helps keep her in check. 'Actually it helps me sometimes. Because I can look in the mirror and feel insecure, and then I'm like, 'No, that's not what you stand for. You're confident, you're beautiful, you are enough the way you are.'

Demi stressed the importance of being uplifting and how hazardous it can be to tear one's self apart. '[But putting yourself down can be] very dangerous. And it's important that young people don't get used to that. that they grow up feeling confident and empowered.'

And the brunette also revealed she chose to name her album 'Confident' as it best described how she feels at the moment.

'Confidence is something that everybody struggles with at some point in their life. And I'm now at a point in my life where I feel like i've overcome that obstacle to some degree.

'Some days I won't feel confident but right now I do and at this period in my life I've never felt more confident in my music and who I am as an artist and I wanted to name my album that,' she revealed.
