'I've always got to look at my music': Olly Murs hints might already be thinking about leaving X Factor in order to focus on a new album

His time as X Factor co-host alongside pal Caroline Flack has been met with widespread derision.

And Olly Murs, 31, sounds like he's already planning his escape route after revealing he could end up leaving the show after the current series to focus on his music career.

Speaking to the Daily Star, he said: 'I’d like to do next year. But I’ll have to look at my music.

'I’m writing a new album and when I make these decisions I’ve always got to look at my music.'

His appearances on the live shows have been fraught with gaffes, the biggest of which saw the pop star leave viewers reeling, after he announced that hopeful Monica Michael was being eliminated after mistaking the number of judges who had chosen to send her home - before the results of the deadlock round were officially announced.

Speaking on the red carpet at the glitzy ITV Gala on Thursday night, he said: 'I think you need to put it in perspective with everything that's going on in the world.

'At the end of the day, I made a single mistake at a critical point in X Factor which was massively blown out of proportion.'

The 31-year-old singer, who split up with girlfriend of three years Francesca Thomas in September, said he cried as he watched the BBC documentary Wayne Rooney: The Man Behind the Goals in October.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said he was 'mentally strong' and that his job was 'repetitive', but that he lost it watching the show about the Manchester United and England striker.

He said: 'My job can be repetitive. I have to take hundreds of selfies a week. It's just bosh, bosh, here you go.

'But I don't mind repetitive; I used to work in a jam factory.

'Usually, I am mentally strong. But, after I broke up with my girlfriend, I cried watching a Wayne Rooney documentary.'

He also said it took him 25 minutes to do his hair each morning but that he has now ditched fake tan because of its smell, adding: 'Beauty starts at the top. I spend 25 minutes on my hair every morning.

'As long as that looks good, I'm happy. I stopped wearing fake tan because it stinks.'
