A storm in a coffee cup: Young soldiers in hot water for failing to make their commanding officer enough hot drinks (and even forgetting the Jaffa Cake on the side)

Army officers have been lectured for not making their commander's coffee properly and failing to supply Jaffa Cakes, Party Rings and pink wafers.

Captain Clare Coward sent an email to six young officers accusing them of being 'idiots' for not being able to make a brew.

The note told cadets in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers at Tidworth Camp it was 'completely unacceptable' that their commanding officer had been forced to wait for coffee when someone had forgot to put on a second pot.

The letter, read: 'However basic and simple you may think making Officers' Coffee is, it is something that needs to be done correctly otherwise you look like idiots.

'It is something you are failing at, especially when people are away and others are asked/not asked to cover.'

The commander went on to list four points coffee-makers should take into account.

The letter said 'the most junior officer is responsible for officers' coffee' that they should 'ensure that there is always enough coffee, 'put the other officers before yourself' and 'ensure the kitchen area and Harris room are left clean and tidy'.

And she went on to say they should never 'scrimp on biscuits'.

The captain, based at Jellalabad Barracks, told how Jaffa Cakes, chocolate Hobnobs go down well, while Party rings or pink wafers were a 'treat'.

The letter read: 'It is important not to run out of coffee or biscuits as occasionally I have to put on a pot of coffee and a plate of biscuits when hosting officers that visit BHQ (battalion headquarters).'

She added: 'I'm annoyed that I even have to write this. Get a grip and do the duty properly. You don't have to do it for that long so do it right.'

An Army spokesman told MailOnline: 'This is a storm in a teacup so nobody is going to get in any hot water.'

The message was posted on the Army Rumour Service website.
