So it was a cringe-worthy awkward moment as Harry Styles was introduced to Gigi Hadid live on TV at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The lothario smiled as overly enthusiastic red carpet host Giuliana Rancic brought Gigi onto the camera with him.

'Have you met before?' she asked in her typically chirpy fashion, finishing up her One Direction interview.

Wowzers. Gigi Hadid just stepped things up a gear at the American Music Awards!

The stunning model took to the red carpet in a full look by Bao Tranchi, a brand who worships the female form and brings boudoir glamour out of the bedroom. Not a 1D fan? Gigi looked rather lukewarm as they were introduced

'Do you guys know Gigi Hadid? Do you wanna welcome her up? Come on Gigi,' continued Giuliana.

'Have you guys met before? Have you ever met One Direction before?'

Gigi looked very lukewarm, confirming that she had indeed met the band, and giving a half-smile as she shook Harry's hand.

He stood aside as she warmly embraced his bandmates Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson, giving them each a kiss and hug.

Not to be outdone, Harry's band recently released their new track Perfect, which chatshow host James Corden implied was inspired by Swift during an interview last week.

The Late Late Show host teased Harry and dropped some not-so-subtle remarks, by saying: ‘So I’m reading the lyrics and I happen upon, a line, and this line says “and if you’re looking for someone to write your break-up songs about, baby I’m perfect”.

‘Now listen, listen I don’t want to have any Bad Blood about this, and if this is a problem and we don’t want to talk about it, we can just Shake It Off! Who’s the song about?'

Taking the jest in his stride, Harry replied: ‘I think the thing with songwriting is everyone writes from personal experience. It's not always necessarily what it sounds like it's about. 

'Sometimes it is! And it's open to interpretation.’

The words are thought to reference Taylor's track Wish You Would from her latest album, 1989, in which she describes driving along with a boyfriend.
