- The Southampton striker has been struggling with a foot injury
- He will have surgery on Tuesday in a bid to correct the problem
- Rodriguez previously spent a year on the sidelines with a knee injury
Jay Rodriguez is set for another agonising eight weeks out as he requires surgery on his foot.
The Southampton striker will have an operation on Tuesday to sort out the pain he has been feeling since returning to action.
Rodriguez has only just started to return to full fitness after spending more than a year out recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Jay Rodriguez will not play again this year with the Southampton striker requiring surgery on his foot
He was on the verge of a place in Roy Hodgson's England squad for the World Cup in Brazil before he landed awkwardly in a match against Manchester City at the Etihad.
This injury is completely separate to that one but the surgery will mean he will be out until early next year.
Rodriguez told Sportsmail in August that he hoped to get back to scoring form and that it would give him a chance of winning a place in Hodgson's squad for the European Championship in the summer. But those chances have now taken a huge hit.
The 26-year-old has managed to make 12 appearances this campaign and netted three times as he got back to full strength following such a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
