Matt Damon cracks a smile as he takes a break from filming Bourne sequel to spend time with wife Luciana Barroso in Berlin

He's been spotted filming some intense and gritty scenes for his return as Jason Bourne.

But it appears Matt Damon was able to leave his character's killer instinct on set, as he took a break from filming the Bourne sequel in Berlin to unwind with his wife, Luciana Barroso, and friends.

Wrapping up against the winter chill on Monday afternoon, the 45-year-old actor and his wife, 39, both sported parka jackets and woolly hats as they soaked up the sites in the German capital.

Matt, who is currently in the city on-location for the untitled fifth Bourne film, appeared to be in high spirits as he joked around with a friend following a trip to the gym before meeting up with his wife

Clad in a grey fur-lined parka jacket, black tracksuit trousers and a pair of colourful trainers, the Oscar-winning star cut a casual figure as he strolled through the streets.

The Goodwill Hunting star finished his seasonally sensible wardrobe off with a black woolly hat.

His wife of ten years was clearly of the same frame of mind when it came to the weather, and wore an olive green parka over a cream jumper, which she teamed with blue denim jeans.

Rounding her wintery look off with a matching bobble hat, grey scarf and gloves, the brunette beauty looked to be feeling the wintery bite in the air a shade more than her husband.

With her hat keeping her ombre locks in place, the mother-of-four showcased her naturally striking features as she wore a minimal pallet of make-up.

And while the Matt was clearly enjoying a spot of downtime with his friends and wife, the star showed that he always has time for his fans as he smiled whilst signing some autographs for fans.

Returning to the Bourne franchise after a one movie break, in which Jeremy Renner took over the series as black ops agent Aaron Cross, the star has already been seen on-location in London, Greece and Tenerife.

Although details of the plot for the fifth film are being kept under wraps, Damon recently hinted it would touch on civil liberties.

'Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,' he told Buzzfeed.

'It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.'

The movie is set to hit cinemas on July 29, 2016 and boasts an all-star cast including Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Julia Stiles and Vincent Cassel.
