SPOILER ALERT: The Walking Dead FINALLY reveals if Glenn really is dead or alive

After watching him fall into a pack of zombies, fans of The Walking Dead have been kept in the dark about the fate of Glenn Rhee.

But on Sunday night's episode titled Heads Up viewers finally discovered that Glenn is alive as they saw him crawling to safety out of the walkers' reach.

A wider camera angle revealed the flesh viewers saw being torn apart belonged to Nicholas, whose dead body fell on top of Glenn and saved his life.

And while the walkers feasted on Nicholas's intestines, Glenn crawled to safety underneath the dumpster he fell from.

Glenn, who was unaware of the fate of his fellow survivors and girlfriend Maggie, was reunited with escapee Enid as she threw him a bottle of water from the roof of a discarded building.

Chasing Enid inside, he shouted: 'My wife, Maggie, is she ok? Enid, is Maggie ok? Answer me.'

But much to Glenn's distress he realised the brunette girl has disappeared, leaving his questions unanswered.

Back at Alexandria, Maggie, who revealed to Aaron she is pregnant with Glenn's baby, was still keeping watch and praying for Glenn's safe return.

'This is the direction he's coming,' she told Rick Grimes. 'If he send up a signal it will be from out there. Or it won't be.'

Rick reassured her: 'We've come back from harder things, from further away. Glenn, Daryl, Abraham and Sasha, they will too.'

After teaching Jessie Anderson's son Ron how to shoot a gun, Rick joined forces with Carol Peletier and Michonne to ask Morgan Jones why he refused to kill the Wolves who attacked their compound.

Asked by Carol, whether he let any of them go, Morgan confessed: 'Yes I did. I didn't want to kill five people I didn't have to kill.'

He continued: 'I don't know what's right any more because I did want to kill those men, seeing what they did, what they would have kept doing. I knew I could end it.

'But I also know that people can change because everyone sitting here has. All life is precious and that idea changed me. It brought me back and it keeps me living. I thought about letting that idea go, but I don't want to.'

'You might have to,' Michonne warned. 'Things aren't as simple as four words. I don't think they ever were.'

'Making it now. Do you really think you can do that without getting blood on your hands?' Rick asked.

Shaking his head, Morgan said: 'I don't know.'

While Rosita Espinosa taught a group of reluctant residents – including Dr. Eugene Porter – how to kill walkers with knives, cameras cut back to Glenn who sneaked up on Enid and put his hand over her mouth.

Refusing to accompany him back to Alexandria, the youngster pointed a gun at Glenn's head, but he reached up and pulled it away, telling her to lead the way home.

Asked whereabouts she lives at home, Enid told Glenn: 'It's not my home. I lived in Olivia's place, but I was on my own, orphaned by walkers.'

'Me too, probably,' Glenn replied.

'It's just what happens,' Enid states.

Glenn and Enid, who have been filling balloons with helium to send a signal to their fellow survivors, were left open-mouthed when Alexandria came into sight and they saw the compound surrounded by a sea of walkers.

'What's the point?' a distressed Enid asked, turning round to leave. 'The world is trying to die. We're supposed to just let it.'

Glenn reassured her: 'No, you're wrong. We're not supposed to let the world die and I'm sure as hell not going to let you die.

Back inside Alexandria, Rick was distracted from adding reinforcements to the fence when he spotted Spencer hanging from a cable and trying to pull himself out of the compound.

The former sheriff's deputy rushed over, but the cable snapped and threw Spencer to the ground amid a group of the undead.

While Tara risked her life to fire shots at the walkers, Rick pulled Deanna Monroe's son to safety.

Afterwards Rick, who has been struggling to bond with the Alexandria residents, screamed at Tara: 'You almost died once for these people. What the hell were you doing?'

He later apologized and said: 'I just meant what you did for him, you didn't have to. You could have died.'

Tara explained: 'I'd like to say I was thinking about it, but I wasn't. That's how it works with us. We're stuck with each other, right?'

While Ron, who snuck into the weapons room to steal some bullets, was seen ominously pulling a gun out of his pocket behind Rick's son Carl, Carol followed Morgan to where she suspected he was keeping one of The Wolves.

Opening the door, she came face to face with Morgan and asked: 'Who the hell do you have in that cell?'

The rest of the group, meanwhile, turned round to see a bunch of green balloons floating into the air in the distance.

Running over to Rick, Maggie gasped: 'That's Glenn.'

But their moment of hope was brief as the tower – which had been creaking and breaking from the pressure of the gathering walkers – came crashing down and brought down the iron fence, leaving a clear path for the undead to walk inside.
