The Christmas jumper is no longer enough to draw punters back to the club shop in the build-up to the festive period. With next season's new home and away shirts already being readied, the need to tempt fans with novel gifts to offset the sense of being ripped off is fiercer than ever.  

So commonplace has the the snowman dressed in club colours with the pullable pointy nose become, merchandise teams across Premier League clubs have upped their game, acknowledging the stock penguin is ironically chic no more.

The Santa Clause outfits and hats will no doubt remain a popular choice seen in stadiums in the coming weeks, and while the seasonal turkey hat once seen on a Wigan supporter never took off, there are fresh candidates this season to the crown as the worst ever club Christmas gift, as Sportsmail reveals with the help of gamblegeek.com.

1. West Brom pegs - £4.49

Where to start. Tony Pulis' side left Arsenal high and dry following their 2-1 win over the Gunners at The Hawthorns on Saturday, and now Baggies fans who make as much fuss in their households as Santi Cazorla from 12 yards can air their dirty laundry in public while showing off their club allegiances.

Fans of Eddie Howe's side can embrace their inner Bob-the-Builder en route to the Vitality Stadium, and doubtless get plenty of stick from visiting supporters all for a staggering £25. Bargain.

3. Crystal Palace tape measure - £4.99

It's been hard to quantify just how great an impact Alan Pardew has had on Crystal Palace since his return to Selhurst Park at the start of the year, but now Eagles fans can at least size things up using a club tape measure.

Avoiding the temptation of coming in the club's tradition blue and red, the £4.99 purchase shines in a fetching yellow to resemble the soaring bird present on match days at the south London club, perhaps.

With a measuring length of 500cm or just over 16ft, Palace fans hoping to get measurements spot on for that traditional Christmas game of petanque have had their prayers answered.
