The British Fashion Awards is meant to be one of the most stylish nights of the year and a chance for the fashion elite to show off their superb taste.

But a host of attendees at tonight's event, in which the British Fashion Council recognises outstanding talent in the UK's fashion industry, got it oh-so wrong.

Actress Kate Bosworth looked like a hot mess in a patchwork dress of pale blue chiffon

Fashionista Alexa Chung took a gamble that didn't pay off with this dress.

With far too much detail, the sequinned sheer high-street-label overlay did its best to distract us from the fact Cheryl seemed to have stepped out in her underwear.

Meanwhile, the usually impeccably dressed actress Kate Bosworth looked like a hot mess in a patchwork dress of pale blue chiffon by Erdem.

We did love Alexa's wavy locks and make-up though, with rouge lips and killer brows.

Make a statement in a coral maxi dress like Salma's

The British Fashion Awards are naturally a super stylish affair with everyone who’s anyone in the fashion world attending the event.

Competition is always fierce in the sartorial stakes and it seems that not everyone was impressed with the pieces! But here on the fashion finder desk we loved them all! Including that of Salma Hayek who donned a dramatic coral colored ruffle gown complete with sequin embellishment.

Now we know this look isn’t for the fainthearted, but if you want to make a statement this party season, follow Salma’s lead and don a salmon pink maxi dress!

Salma’s Gucci creation is a custom design, so not available to buy, but you can shop the read-to-wear collection online by following the link on the right.

Or if you want to get the look for less, check out our edit of coral colored maxis in the carousel below, including picks from City Goddess, Amanda Uprichard, Joanna August and Philosophy.

With a bib-like top offering too much side-boob thinly veiled in lace, the peplum skirt bulked up her waist and the white rose cheapened the look.
