Gwyneth Paltrow has unveiled a pricey capsule collection with the design team at Valentino, and the unlikely muse behind the line might surprise you.

The 43-year-old actress and Goop founder has revealed that the 25-piece collection of accessories, footwear, and ready-to-wear was inspired by none other than DC comics heroine Wonder Woman, a show the star avidly watched as a child.

'To me, it’s a fantastic and resonant idea, because everybody is working, having kids, trying not to miss a soccer game while at the same time being on a conference call. The modern woman is a wonder woman,' Gwyneth told the New York Times of the inspiration behind the collection, which went on sale today and ranges from $275 to $9,900.

Highlights from the line include $275 leather bracelets, $1,075 white sneakers with gold star accents, $10,500 motorcycle jackets - which aren't available online - and chiffon dresses and tops covered in gold and silver stars.

A $6,950 leather jacket embellished with studs has already sold out, just hours after it went on sale.

Gwyneth's collection is being sold on Goop.com and its new pop-up shop at the Time Warner Center in New York.

The star, who collaborated on the line with Valentino head designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, came up with the idea this summer while attending Valentino's couture show in Paris.

She wanted to work on a retail concept, but had no plans to follow in the footsteps of other celebrities and start her own fashion line.

So, Gwyneth, Maria, and Pierpaolo began talking over WhatsApp, and soon the Wonder Woman theme was born.

And while the fashionable actress certainly had a hand in the look and feel of the collection, she said she mostly just stood back and let the talented designers work.

'I mean, these guys are among the most creative minds in fashion right now, so you want to let them do what they’re doing and not interrupt too much,' she shared.

'It’s not like I was scouting for Portuguese factories. Their infrastructure is pretty good,' added Gwyneth.

'It’s high and low together,' said Pierpaolo of the collection, although to most people, a $275 leather bracelet definitely does not count as 'low'.

He went on to say of Gwyneth's lifestyle website: 'Goop is quite democratic. It’s a modern language.'

Maria, meanwhile, immediately took the Wonder Woman theme, sharing: 'We wanted to give a positive message for women that could be important to speak about now in a fun way.'

Over the years, Gwyneth has often been criticized for her exorbitantly priced fashion picks, and caused a stir again last week when she unveiled her 2015 Goop gift guide.

Her holiday favorites included $956 toilet paper, $125,000 gold dumbbells, and a $90,000 trip to space.

Suddenly, that $275 leather bracelet doesn't seem so bad.
