He's back! Ricky Gervais shares first posters showing him grinning widely as host of 2016 Golden Globe ceremony
He divided opinion when he made his last outing as the host of the Golden Globes.
But despite the offence he caused to some, Ricky Gervais is back and he seems pretty pleased about it.
The first poster for the Globes 2016 ceremony has been released and the comedian can be seen grinning, mouth open wide as he brandishes a gong in his hand.
He's back! The first billboard art of Ricky Gervais as the host of the 2016 Golden Globes has been released
It will be his fourth outing as master of ceremonies for the event - he hosted the show between 2010 and 2012 - before Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took over.
The comedian posted a photo of the art, on a giant billboard with the caption: 'Look!'
He appears to have had a turnaround since he was first announced as the host - when his name was revealed initially he tweeted shortly after: 'It’s a good job I’m drunk. Otherwise the thought of hosting The Golden Globes again would seem like a real pain in the arse.'
Watch out Hollywood: The comedian also posted a photo of the poster with the caption: 'Look!'
Ricky had initially vowed never to do it again after his stint in 2012.
His controversial jokes caused offence with some of the acting great and good that were gathered, who were more used to saccharine soaked speeches and slaps on the back.
Among those he took potshots at while holding his trademark beer was Angelina Jolie - in 2012 he said: 'Actors aren’t just loved here in Hollywood, they are loved the world over.
No more: Ricky had initially vowed never to do it again after his stint in 2012
'You could be a little Asian child with no possessions and no money. But you could see a picture of Angelina Jolie and you’d think, "Mummy!"'
He also throughout the years of his stint on the podium made jokes about Mel Gibson, references to Jodie Fosters sexuality and also took a dig at Kate Winslet.
He said to the star: 'Well done Winslet! I told ya, do a Holocaust movie and the awards come.'
It was in reference to The Reader, which she earned a Best Supporting Actress gong for, the same year she got a globe for Best Actress in Revolutionary Road.
He also mentioned Charlie Sheen saying: 'It's gonig to be a night of partying and heavy drinking or as Charlie Sheen calls it, breakfast.'
Stiff grin: Jodie Foster was on the receiving end of his barbed humour one year, when he made jokes about her sexuality
Funny side: Kate Winslet found his wit amusing when he congratulated on making a film about The Holocaust
Seemingly delighting in his provocation he said after the event in 2012: 'I’ve told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though. It’s like a parachute jump.'
But persuaded he clearly was - and it seems the Hollywood Foreign Press Association were just as delighted saying: 'We are thrilled to have him back in our show as we honor the best in film and television.
The President Lorenzo Soria added: 'His off-the-cuff wit and quirky charm will surely have the room and audiences around the world at the edge of their seats.'
Inappropriate? Charlie Sheen and Mel Gibson were also in the firing line
Ricky is already gathering material for the 73rd ceremony and is asking for ideas from his Twitter followers.
On Monday he took to the social media platform saying: 'Who or what should I do jokes about at The Golden Globes and why?'
The 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards air Jan. 10, 2016 at 8:00p.m. ET on NBC.
Seemingly delighting in his provocation he said after the event in 2012: 'I’ve told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though. It’s like a parachute jump' - however he is now back for more
