'As a result good souls are ruined daily. Keep your head up and be conscious of the energy you give out an connect with.'

The image of the X Factor judge was taken on Monday evening - and subsequently deleted - in the bathroom at the London Coliseum, where she was one of the many star guests at the British Fashion Awards.

Shot in the reflection of the mirror, the singer appears to be washing her hands, but in front of her and slightly to the side are what seem to be three lines of a substance.

The photograph was shared on Instagram by a fashion journalist at the awards ceremony, along with the caption: 'Sadness in her eyes.'

The picture was swiftly removed from the writer's timeline.

There is no reason to assume that what appeared to look like a white substance belonged to Cheryl, or that she was involved in drug-taking in any way.

She was entirely unaware of whatever appeared to be on the counter, nor was it clear what is was.

The star immediately instigated legal action to stop the photograph in question from circulating.

A legal notice has been sent around to prohibit the publication of the photograph, directly from Cheryl's lawyers.

A source close to the star told The Sun: 'It's outrageous that someone in the fashion industry has taken a picture of Cheryl like this and posted it publicly.

'She absolutely despises drugs and any connection linking her to them is ridiculous. She was just using the toilet.'
