Interior designer Nate wrote: 'Last week my father, Michael Berkus, lost a short-lived battle with brain cancer.

'He was the most generous and funny man and my stepmother and brothers are devastated.'

The father-of-one continued: 'This picture of us was taken at my wedding to Jeremiah Brent in May 2014, he was the only one who could make me laugh when I was as nervous as I was on that special day.'

His other half: In his Instagram post, Nate gushed about how his father had helped him to get over nerves on the day of his wedding to Jeremiah Brent (pictured in 2014), who he had been dating for nearly two years

An obituary by Pioneer Press also honored the late founder of the National Sports Collectors Convention.

'He was well known for his sense of humor and generosity and will be missed by all who knew him,' it said.

Michael was survived by his wife of 40 years, Sher Berkus. Along with Nate he also had sons Steve, Dan, and Bob, and was a grandfather-of-six.

Nate, who is Oprah Winfrey's interior design guru, wed Rachel Zoe's former assistant Jeremiah, 30, last year in a luxe ceremony.

The two are proud parents to a daughter, Poppy, born in March.

Nate has said of fatherhood: 'It's made me realize that everything I work for and everything that I do is really for her. It doesn't feel burdensome; it feels very natural.'

The duo just covered the October issue of Architectural Digest - along with one-year-old daughter - in which they showed off their apartment in the lower Fifth area of New York City.

'We knew we wanted to have a family and that we wanted to raise our child in New York,' Nate gushed about investing into their high-end apartment, which has since been listed for sale with an asking price of $10.5m.

American Dream Builders host Nate was originally based in New York, while Jeremiah and his flourishing design business took off in Los Angeles.

After dating for nine months, the two designers ended up falling for each other and became engaged on a Peruvian mountaintop.

No stranger to the Big Apple, Jeremiah and Nate later made history during their star-studded wedding ceremony at New York City's famed public library.

The pair was married by Oprah Winfrey Network co-president Sheri Salata in May 2014 - making them the first same sex couple ever to have wed there.
