He is widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians ever.

And some of the biggest names in music turned out to pay tribute to John Lennon at a special concert to celebrate what would have been the singer's 75th birthday, at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow was one of the performers on the star-studded bill, and she cut a cool figure as she teamed a sophisticated black blazer with black trousers.

She paid tribute to the Big Apple with a white top with New York City emblazoned across it, which gave the ensemble a casual edge.

The hitmaker looked much younger than her 53 years as she smiled brightly for the cameras. Sheryl's classy black heels helped to exaggerate her lithe figure and her minimal make-up showed she's very much a natural beauty.

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, 67, looked every inch the rock God he is, in a pair of leather trousers, patterned shirt and an eye-catching jacket with impressive flared sleeves.

His 70s inspired look was completed with an array of accessories, including rings and a wooden crucifix necklace and he wore his long wavy locks down as prowled across the stage.

He was joined by his daughter Mia, 36, who proudly displayed her inked neck and chest. The actress and model's long black tresses fell over her shoulders and down her leather jacket.

Mia pouted her plump lips for the cameras and showcased her fresh faced beauty make-up free for the occasion. 

And the Walk This Way hitmaker could be seen alongside Lennon's wife Yoko Ono, who cast an approving eye on the evening's entertainment.

Other guests and performers at the star-studded event included Aloe Blacc, Kris Kristofferson, Brandon Flowers and Kevin Bacon.

John Lennon was a founding member of The Beatles, who revolutionised the music industry with their take on popular music.

Following his departure from the band in 1970, Lennon embarked on a successful solo career which included the legendary Imagine album.

Lennon died in 1980, after deranged fan Mark Chapman shot his idol four times in the back as he returned to his New York apartment with Yoko.
