He's a superstar: Kendrick Lamar led the Grammy nominations on Monday morning with an impressive 11 nods in nine categories

She's done well: Taylor Swift followed closely behind with an impressive seven nods

Taylor, 25, earned herself seven nods as the prestigious list was released, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year.

The acclaimed star competed against Taylor for Album Of The Year in 2014, so not doubt she will be keen to claw back a win.

Her five-time platinum selling album 1989 proved to be a huge success, alongside her major hit, Blank Space.

Canadian singer The Weeknd, 25, real name is Abel Tesfaye, also has seven nominations and worked with some of the same producers as Taylor for his album Beauty Behind the Madness.

His song Can't Feel My Face was a huge hit which catapulted him album up through the charts.

Three of his nominations are for his hit, Earned It, which featured on the Fifty Shades Of Grey soundtrack.

British singer Ed Sheeran also performed well with multiple nods with three nods, with Best Record, Song and Solo Pop, receiving a fourth mention for writing on The Weeknd's album.

He tweeted his glee on Monday shortly after, in typical coy fashion, writing: 'I wasn't expecting the Grammy noms, thank you.'

Rapper Drake was nominated for Best Rap performance, Best Rap Song and Best Rap album.

Four of the categories were announced on a live stream on the Grammy's website by 15-time winner, Alicia Keys, who revealed that Taylor had won three out of the Big Four categories. The only one she was not mentioned in was Best New Artist.

Ahead of the big reveal, Alicia talked about what she felt like to win the gongs.

She said: 'I was very sick, that was a strange feeling. I was so overwhelmed to be in a room with people like Celine Dion and Bono. I had never been in a room with all those people before.

'I felt like I was blasted into the television set and I prayed that I wouldn't trip up.'

Singer Adele was not mentioned in the nominations as the awards' eligibility period — from October 1 2014, to September 30 of 2015 — disqualifies current hits like Adele's 25 from awards being considered.

Whereas the rule worked out well for Taylor, whose album 1989 came out in October 2014.
