The X Factor audience were left a tad bemused last night after Australian music star Sia took to the stage wearing a monochrome wig which covered much of her face.

Belting out her new record Alive, 39-year-old Sia Furler sang on top of a glass box wearing the enormous wig. Atop the Titanium hitmaker's hair was a huge polka dot bow.

During the performance, viewers took to the social media site to question the unique hairstyle. @xxkateriinaxx said: 'I just don't get Sia, why is her hair always covering her face! #XFactor'.

Another, ‏@JackkkHollanddd, wrote, with more than a hint of sarcasm: 'Cracking hair Sia, brings out your eyes.'

Plenty of jokers also referenced her name, saying they couldn't 'Sia' because of the helmet-shaped tresses.

One user, @hazgibbo, wrote: 'Nice having Sia on X Factor. Would be nicer if we could possibly Sia face?'

@JezGoddard went down a similar vein, saying: 'Who just performed on X Factor? Nice if we could Sia!'

Born in Adelaide, the singer has admitted she just wants a 'private life' and often sports a platinum wig on stage. Since the release of her most recent album,1000 Forms Of Fear last year, the performer has made a concerted effort to hide her face in all her live performances and public appearances.

As well as her recent showing at the Grammys earlier this week, Sia has also appeared on a number of US talk shows in the last year concealing her face in eccentric performances.

Last month, the singer ditched the wig and opted instead for a peculiar clown mask after leaving a Saturday Night Live performance wearing a clown mask.

At the Venice Film Festival in September, Sia appeared in an almost all-over-hair wig, with just her chin visible.

Earlier this year, the star explained the reasons behind her shyness, blaming media intrusion. She told the New York Times: 'It's horrible, I just wanted to have a private life.'

She added: 'Once, as my friend was telling me they had cancer, someone came up and asked, in the middle of the conversation, if they could take a photograph with me.'

Meanwhile, last night's X Factor saw Lauren Murray get the boot ahead of next week's final.

The London-born hopeful went head-to-head with Che Chesterman on Sunday night's live semi-final results show, although she received the lowest amount of public votes and was subsequently sent home.

Simon Cowell was left with the casting decision between the duo yet he allowed the vote to go to deadlock as he was indecisive leading to Lauren's departure - making Louisa Johnson, Che and Reggie N Bollie the three finalists.
