They say that redheads tend to have a fiery nature.

And Susan Sarandon certainly put on a passionate display as she let her hair down at an ice hockey game at Madison Square Gardens in New York on Sunday.

The 69-year-old hollered and cheered alongside her son Miles as the New York Rangers took on the Ottawa Senators in a tight match.

She wrapped up warm for the chilly arena in a black coat and red scarf whilst her 23-year-old showed his team spirit in a patriotic New York hoodie.

She kept her trademark auburn locks loose and curled, whilst a minimal coverage of make-up highlighted her flawless complexion.

The Thelma & Louise star threw herself into the game spirit, leaping to her feet and screaming words of encouragement at the team during various points in the match.

Miles, Susan's youngest child with ex-partner Tim Robbins, seemed impressed with his mum's energetic display, laughing and smiling with her as they cheered on their team together.

The musician made headlines earlier this year when it was revealed he doesn't conform to gender stereotypes.

In an interview with People magazine Susan confessed: 'My son Miles is a musician and a DJ and sometimes when his band performs they all wear dresses, and he has long hair.'

And the LGBT activist said she was supportive of her son's choices, with his unique sense of style making him 'more exciting'.

She added: 'I think the more crayons you have in your box to color outside the lines, the more exciting it is.'

Susan is also mum to 26-year-old son Jack Henry, and has a daughter from her relationship with Frank Ammuri, 30-year-old Eva.
