'Thanks everybody!' Kelly Clarkson and Lady Gaga share their joy at receiving Grammy nods as stars react to nominations

The Grammy Awards nominations were announced on Monday and the stars who managed to get nods were clearly thrilled at the news.

Among those taking to Twitter to celebrate were Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran.

Kelly's Piece By Piece record scored her a nod for Best Pop Vocal Album, and she's also up for Best Pop Solo Performance for Heartbeat Song.

The American Idol winner, 33, who is expecting her second child, tweeted: 'Woke up to 2 Grammy nominations!! :) Thanks everybody who nominated me and congrats to all the other nominees!'

Lady Gaga received a nomination for Til It Happens To You, which she wrote alongside Diane Warren for documentary The Hunting Ground, about campus rape.

The 29-year-old, who is up for Best Song Written For Visual Media, shared her gratitude by posting a selfie to Instagram, with her hand on her chest.

'Thank you fans and The Grammys for nominating my song "Til It Happens You You" for a Grammy!' she wrote. 'Me and My co-writer Diane Warren are so honored and proud to be a part a movement that empowers rape victims into survivors.'

Justin also shared a photo to Instagram, after hearing that he is nominated in the Best Dance Recording with Skrillex and Diplo for Where Are U Now.

'Up for a Grammy with these guys thanks to everyone who has been a part of this amazing musical transition,' he wrote alongside a snapshot of the trio.

Ed admitted he was surprised by his four nods, telling fans: 'I wasn't expecting the Grammy noms, thank you.' 

The 24-year-old is up for Record Of The Year, Song Of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for Thinking Out Loud, and has also been honoured in the Album Of The Year category for penning tracks on The Weeknd's Beauty Behind The Madness.

Meanwhile John also has four nods, three of which are for his Oscar winning track Glory with Common - Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Rap Song and Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

He is nominated a second time in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category, for Big Sean's One Man Can Change The World which he features on alongside Kanye West.

The 36-year-old tweeted: '4 Grammy Nominations! Thank you! @TheGRAMMYs.'

And John's pregnant wife Chrissy Teigen - who is expecting the couple's first child together - joked that she almost missed the nominations announcement. 

Replying to her husband's tweet, she wrote: 'And i just barely made it to the bathroom in time. big day.'

Also up early for the big announcement was Blake Shelton, who excitedly wrote: 'Stop! Grammy time.....' as he settled down to watch the nominations be unveiled. 

After learning that he had garnered a Best Country Duo/Group Performance nod for his collaboration with Ashley Monroe, Lonely Tonight, he added: 'Congrats @ashleymonroe!!!! We going to the Grammys!!!!'

Best New Artist nominee Meghan Trainor was feeling particularly honoured, and wrote on Instagram: 'Crying all day. what an honor it is to be next to such incredible artists like @torikelly @jamesbaymusic @samhuntmusic and #CourtneyBarnett ..thank you to the @thegrammys for this amazing nomination!!'

Tori Kelly, nominated in the same category, said; 'I'm nominated for a Grammy. My heart is heavy & I am just speechless.'

Meanwhile, Josh Groban was clearly feeling emotional after landing a nomination for Stages in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category.

Along with a crying face emoji, he wrote: 'Omg!! Honored to be in such tremendous company! #stages #GRAMMYs.' 

Among the artists he will be competing against is Seth MacFarlane, who shared: 'Wow much thanks for Grammy nomination for No One Ever Tells You!!' 

In a statement, newcomer Elle King - who has two nods for her hit Ex's & Oh's, said: 'I am so ... humbly elated to be listed among the other performers I look up to... This is a dream come true. But the real question is, what the hell am I going to wear?'

Tony Bennett, nominated with Bill Charlap for Traditional Pop Vocal Album, said in a statement: 'We put all our love for jazz and the songs of Jerome Kern - that are such a testament to the Great American Songbook - into this recording. It is always an honor to be nominated for a Grammy.'

Meanwhile, several stars of the country world made sure to share their excitement.

Karen Fairchild, whose band Little Big Town is up for four Grammys, told AP: 'You always want to believe that songs like Girl Crush are going to rise to the top and be heard, but it doesn't always happen.

'It says a lot about the community here in Nashville and the way artists, instead of being competitive, often are cheering each other on.'

And double nominee Sam Hunt (for Best New Artist and Best Country Album) said: 'I am so grateful to the fans, the Nashville music community and the Recording Academy for their appreciation and recognition. This has been just the most amazing year.'

Meanwhile, The Mavericks' lead singer gushed of their nods for Americana Album and Americana Roots Song: 'We are incredibly grateful that our music is able to do exactly what we intended: free people from themselves and their struggles.

'On the road our fans dance, cry, sing, laugh and get into a vibe that transcends outside obstacles like race, language and social status. Thank you to The Recording Academy for noticing and again believing in The Mavericks.'

They will compete in both categories against Jason Isbell, who was sweetly humble about how he would be celebrating his two nominations.

'I think my wife wants to go try on some dresses. Cause she's always looking for an excuse to get a new dress and that's what we are going to do today,' he said. 

Kendrick Lamar is leading the nominations this year with a staggering 11 nods, while Taylor Swift and The Weeknd received an impressive seven nominations apiece. 

Kendrick, Taylor and The Weeknd will all be competing for the ceremony's most prestigious award, Album Of The Year, alongside Chris Stapleton and Alabama Shakes.

On Instagram, Alabama Shakes (who are up for three further awards) wrote: 'We are at a loss for words. We are so proud of this album and to see it recognized in this way means the world to us.' 

The 58th Annual Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on February 15, 2016.
