'I landed wrong and it burst my eardrum so I have to go and get a graft, which means I'm not allowed to fly for a while, so it's kind of good it means I have to stay at home,' he said.

'That was on holidays and I didn't realise what happened until I went in water again and it's the most painful thing having a hole in your ear drum and having water go in,' he added, appearing on the show as part of a week of specials.

The flame-haired crooner, known for hits including Thinking Out Loud and Sing, said the incident happened earlier this year whilst holidaying with friends.

He said they stayed in a share house before deciding to rent a yacht.

'On the last day it was three of their 24th birthdays and I just thought, "bugger it, I'll rent a yacht and we'll just go out and escape all the pandemonium,"' Ed said.

'And yeah it was pretty fun but that's when the jumping off incident happened.'

The star further said he's had other injuries while touring.

'I always cut my hands open on something, last time I did that was last year,' he said.

'I just tried to open a beer bottle, you know how you can open beer bottles with lighters? So I tried to do that with another beer bottle and it just kind of shattered in my hand.'

'It's usually beer bottles that smash in my hands and cut them open, but I have a load of scars on my hands,' he added.

Ed, who has just been revealed to have received three Grammy Award nominations for next year's ceremony, seems to be enjoying his time while in Australia.

Last month, he attended the Aria awards and on Friday, thrilled fans when he took part in a 'peep show' prank for radio duo Hamish Blake and Andy Lee.

The Fox FM stars dressed up and spruiked Ed performing for punters for a measly $2, which many fans found hard to believe.

It took the funnymen two hours to find people who wanted to check out the show, but who were shocked at seeing Ed on stage.
