Not so saintly after all! Kim Kardashian and Kanye West would not have been able to give their son his name in New Zealand where 'titles or ranks' are against the law

With two of the world's most famous parents and an equally headline-grabbing older sister, Saint West's birth was always going to cause a fuss.

And as his name was announced on Tuesday, fans of the family were sent into a frenzy with many disapproving of unusual moniker, turned off by the implication of divinity it carries.

But reality star Kim Kardashian and Kanye West wouldn't have even been able to register the name in New Zealand where it is in breach of the law, according to the Department of Internal Affairs.

According to the country's Department of Internal Affairs, any name that 'includes or resembles an official title or rank' is considered unacceptable by officials.

Saint appears on a list of names alongside Justice, King, Prince and Honour, all of which were rejected by the Kiwi government between 2001 and October 2015.

Royal, Duke, Bishop, Major and Majesty were also turned down as was Lucifer, Messiah and, curiously, Senior Constable.

Other bizarre applications were 89, Mafia No Fear and Anal.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday, a spokesman for the Department of Internal Affairs explained while it doesn't keep a list of banned names, those considered unacceptable are any which 'may cause offence to a reasonable person' or are 'unreasonably long.'

After announcing that they were to add a son to their family earlier this year, speculation mounted as to what the latest addition would be called.

Among fan favourites were Easton and South, both of which the reality TV starlet quickly dismissed.

Within hours of Saint's name being announced on Tuesday the internet became overrun with memes ridiculing the choice.

Critics poked fun at the religious aspect of his naming, mocking the baby's father and his self-prescribed alter-ego, Yeezus.
