A tale of three outfits! Marion Cotillard dazzles in distinctively different designs as she promotes Macbeth in New York

They say that life is tough at the sharp end for the top Hollywood starlets.

And Marion Cotillard underlined this point after wearing three different outfits on a day in which she hawked her latest film Macbeth all across New York on Wednesday.

No doubt the glamorous French sex kitten was absolutely exhausted after her day in which she attended a screening, took part in a question and answer session and attended a chat show.

First up the 40-year-old wore a black woollen coat, turtleneck dress and attention grabbing red suede pixie boots as she attended a special Gotham Magazine screening of her movie, in which she stars alongside Michael Fassbender as Lady Macbeth.

But even after having to once again endure director Justin Kurzel's near two hour version of the Shakespearean classic, she still had plenty of other appointments to attend.

She was dressed down in a trendy brown and yellow pullover, jeans and trainers when she took part in an AOL question and answer session about the picture, which is released in the US on Friday.

'What's the it called?': An old pro like Marion would have been sure to refer to the work as The Scottish Play

In the world of theatre it is often referred to as The Scottish Play because many believe it is cursed and will not mention its title aloud.

However that looked the farthest thing from Marion's mind as she rambled on about her thoughts on the famed work of fiction, which is an unflattering depiction of the largely successful reign of the real Scottish king Macbeth, which ran from 1040 until 1057.

Canny saleswoman Marion has claimed it is 'one of my favorite plays,' adding: 'Actually, when I was in acting school and I saw this student working on Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy, I felt something very special, and I knew that one day I would experience her, but I thought it would be onstage in French. I had never expected such an amazing opportunity to work on a Shakespeare play in English.'

Unlike his depiction in the play, no near contemporary source remarks on the real monarch as being a tyrant.

The Duan Albanach, which survives in a form dating to the reign of Malcolm III, calls him Mac Bethad the renowned, while The Prophecy of Berchán describes him as 'the generous king of Fortriu.'

Finally, she wore a heavy woollen jacket, jeans, trainers and a trendy mesh patterned top as she left a visit to the Daily Show.

And she got a happy surprise when one excited fan decided to surprise her by gifting her with a miniature Christmas tree, and she gave him a present in return by giving him a hug.

The adaptation of Shakespeare's classic received rave reviews when it was screened at Cannes Film Festival in May.

The Guardian wrote: 'As Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are a dream-team pairing, actors who radiate charisma, perhaps more charisma than can be entirely absorbed into the fabric of the film

Meanwhile the Telegraph was also impressed, writing: 'It’s hard to shake the sense that Fassbender was born for this...

'Kurzel’s Macbeth, though, has been blessed with just about the rightest cast imaginable.

'It is built around a pair of cosmically powerful performances from Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.'
