Eddie Redmayne tops the SAG nominations for second year in a row as he goes head-to-head with Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp
Eddie Redmayne could be well on his way towards another winning streak as he was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award on Wednesday morning, after claiming gold the year before.
The actor was nominated for his performance in The Danish Girl after winning the previous year for another lead role in The Theory Of Everything.
However, he has some stiff competition in the form of Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant), Johnny Depp (Black Mass), Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), and Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs).

The odds, however, are stacked against Redmayne when it comes to a potential Oscars streak - the last actor to win two consecutive Oscars was Tom Hanks, who took home statues for Philadelphia in 1993 and Forrest Gump in 1994.
Meanwhile, Anna Faris and Anthony Mackie announced the nominees on Wednesday morning in Los Angeles.
Cate Blanchett tops the list for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Lead Role for Carol.
Going against Blanchett, who won in the same category in 2014 for Blue Jasmine, is Helen Mirren (Woman In Gold), she's won at the SAG three times before, Brie Larson (Room), Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn), Sarah Silverman (I Smile Back).
And the nominees are... Anna Faris and Anthony Mackie announced the nominees on Wednesday morning in Los Angeles

Thrilled to be there: The duo announced Kate Winslet as a nominee in the best supporting actress category for her work in Steve Jobs
Up against the odds: Redmayne has some stiff competition from Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant)
While for supporting actors it will be a battle between Christian Bale (The Big Short), Idris Elba (Beasts Of No Nation), Mark Rylance (Bridge Of Spies), Michael Shannon (99 Homes), and Jacob Tremblay (Room).
The female actors in a supporting role category is stacked with Helen Mirren (Trumbo) and Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs) topping the list.
Rachel McAdams (Spotlight), Rooney Mara (Carol), and Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) complete the list for best supporting actress.
Favorite: Helen Mirren is up again for another lead actress award for her performance alongside Ryan Reynolds in The Woman In Gold
Leading lady: Cate Blanchett tops the list for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Lead Role for Carol
While the ensemble for a motion picture category sees Beasts Of No Nation (Abraham Attah, Kurt Egyiawan, Idris Elba) go against The Big Short (Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, and Steve Carrell), Spotlight (Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, Brian d'Arcy James, Stanley Tucci), Straight Outta Compton (O'Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Paul Giamatti), and Trumbo (Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, Louis C.K., Helen Mirren, John Goodman, Elle Fanning).
Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray told People he felt 'supercharged' about the film's nomination, adding: 'Not to sound cliché but we worked really, really hard to get this on the screen,
'It took us years to find this cast and we put them through a lot to deliver those performances and they delivered. So to be acknowledged and amongst a lot of great artists and a lot of great films, we honestly didn't expect it.'
Rising star: Alicia Vikander has been nominated for best supporting actress for her role in The Danish Girl
Heavy favorite: The Spotlight cast has been nominated for best ensemble (pictured: Michael Keaton, Liev Schreiber, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, John Slattery, Brian d'Arcy James)
Interestingly, the Screen Actors Guild nominated Trumbo which offers a detailed look at Hollywood's black list during the McCarthy era.
Trumbo focuses on 10 screenwriters and directors including Dalton Trumbo, played by Cranston, who were shunned and in a few cases, jailed, for their associations with the Communist Party.
But of course with any competition there are always those who are left out. The Screen Actors Guild Awards notably snubbed Jennifer Lawrence's latest project with Bradley Cooper and director David O. Russell, titled Joy.
Also left out is Matt Damon for his critically acclaimed portrayal of an abandoned astronaut in The Martian.
Will Smith was duly snubbed for his role in Concussion as a neurologist who discovers the dark side of brain injury in American Football.
And not surprisingly, Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight was entirely ignored by the guild.
While Sylvester Stallone's comeback role as Rocky, cited by many as one of the most powerful performances of the year, in Creed was also snubbed.
Michael Keaton was notably absent from the leading actor nod for Spotlight, but did make it to the ensemble list.
Of course, for the nominees it was a day of celebration. And no one was more thrilled than Queen Latifah who told E! News: 'It's such an honor to be nominated by my peers. This movie was a labor of love and being recognized for my performance as Bessie Smith is really incredible.'
Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk said: 'I am thrilled to be nominated by my fellow actors, and I give all credit to Mckean, Banks, Seahorn, and the amazing cast around me, raising my game. Thanks.'
While Julia Louis-Dreyfus said with characteristic sarcasm: 'So excited and thrilled for our happy group of idiot actors.'
Look of death: Johnny Depp could win gold for his performance as Whitey Bulger in Black mass
Ingenious performance: Michael Fassbender as the Apple mogul in Steve Jobs
And newcomer Brie Larson, 26, was thrilled: 'Screen Actors Guild...thank you!! I'm so overwhelmed with happiness. This is a HUGE honor, made even more special because I'll get to share the evening with Jacob. Best date EVER!'
Kate Winslet, who is nominated for her role in Steve Jobs, stated: 'This makes me very very happy. I am truly thrilled to be nominated for a SAG award this year.'
Idris Elba appeared stunned in his statement: 'Wow I'm just floored and humbled right now. It's such a huge honor to be recognized by my friends and peers and for two projects that have really been such an important part of my life, Luther and Beasts of No Nation. It goes without saying that my performance is shared with the tremendous actors I work with. Congratulations to Abraham Attah, Kurt Egyiawan and the rest of the amazing cast from BEASTS!'
Big year: Bryan Cranston is nominated for his lead performance in Trumbo
Ignored: The Screen Actors Guild Awards snubbed Jennifer Lawrences' latest project with Bradley Cooper and director David O. Russell, titled Joy, as they announced their nominees on Wednesday
'Thank you @SAGawards for recognizing the cast of @OITNB & myself with this nomination,' Uzo Uduba tweeted. 'Means so much to us to tell this story. #TeamOrange.'
While Saoirse Ronan released a lighthearted statement regarding her nomination for Brooklyn: 'I've been lucky enough to be a working actor for almost 10 years and the mere fact that people can finally pronounce my name is pretty exciting! I share this with the whole Brooklyn family.'
'It means a great deal to be recognised by my peers during such a wonderful year of filmmaking. The Danish Girl took a long while to get made and I am damn lucky that I ended up having the honour of helping bring Lili and Gerda's story to the screen,' Eddie Redmayne said in a statement.
While Sarah Silverman could not contain her surprise for being nominated for her role in I Smile Back: 'I am honestly in shock and just tickled pink that this happened. My first thought was that I can't believe my Mom isn't here to see this. I wish I believed she is somewhere seeing it. Maybe for today, I will.'
With many of this season's film awards categories still wide open, the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations will help bring serious contenders into better focus.
Lost and forgotten: Most notably absent from the nominees was Matt Damon for his critically acclaimed portrayal of an abandoned astronaut in The Martian
Amnesia: Will Smith appeared to be forgotten for his role in Concussion as a neurologist who discovers the dark side of brain injury in American Football
The Screen Actors Guild Awards honor the best film and television performances of the year. Nominees are selected by separate movie and TV nominating panels, each comprised of over 2,000 randomly selected SAG members.
Many members of the SAG movie panel also vote for the Academy Awards and as a result, the SAG nominees have traditionally served as a helpful indicator of potential Oscar acting nominees.
The 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be broadcast live on January 30 from Los Angeles on TNT and TBS.
SAG is often considered the best predictor for the Academy Awards, with last year's winners going on to claim Oscar gold.
In fact Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore both won at the Screen Actors Guild Awards before winning at the Academy Awards for best actor and best actress - the and the same for J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette for supporting roles.
And while the Oscars does not have an ensemble category, SAG's own division often acts as a precursor for the Academy's best picture award - such as last year's best ensemble-winning film Birdman, which was named best picture at the Oscars.
SAG nominees are voted in by their peers with 4,200 members of the guild randomly selected each year to nominate their favourites.
The 22nd annual SAG awards will take place on January 30 in Los Angeles.
