Madonna paid a moving tribute to the victims of the Paris attacks in the city on Wednesday evening.
After her concert at the AccorHotels Arena, the 57-year-old star invited fans to join her at Place de la Republique, the site of a memorial to victims of the November 13 terrorist attacks, where she sang ‘songs for peace’ with her son David Banda and guitarist Monte Pittman.
Madonna wrote on Twitter: ‘Im singing some songs in place de la republique. Meet me there now #Paris . #rightnow #aftershow #rebelheartour (sic).’

She sang a number of her own songs, including Like A Prayer and also chose some tracks from other artists, such as John Lennon's hit track Imagine.
The superstar – who is on the European leg of her Rebel Heart tour – was joined by a crowd of fans at the impromptu gig, which she finished off by blowing kisses and shouting the word ‘peace’.
‘Everybody knows why we're here,’ she told the crowd.

‘We just want to sing a few songs about peace, just to spread love and joy, and to pay our honour and respect to the people who died almost four weeks ago.’
Shortly after the surprise gig, Madonna took to her social media sites to share a series of pictures – one was captioned: ‘Tonight was magic!! Thank You Paris thank you jr Thank you #rebelheartfans.’
She also added another with her 10-year-old son from her concert earlier on, the singer proudly gushed: ‘David singing Redemption Song for Paris So amazing Thank you Universe. #rebelhearttour.’

Speaking previously about her decision to continue her tour in Europe after the terrorist attacks in Paris last month, in which 130 people died, Madonna admitted she was ‘torn’.
She confessed: ‘I feel torn, like why am I up here dancing and having fun when people are crying over the loss of their loved ones?
‘However, that is exactly what these people want to do. David singing Redemption Song for Paris. They want to silence us. And we won't let them.’
